Any stick will do?

I want to add some climbing branches for my Cham and I don't want to pay for them. Can I cut any limbs out of any type of tree and use them as long as they are cleaned first? Example: Scrub Oak tree.

I'm sure others might chime in here but, I used live oak branches and scrubbed them down really well with with mild dish washing soap and water then rinsed them really well. That has worked well for me and have never had any problems. Some people will use mild bleach and water. Others have baked the branches in the oven on low heat.
