Okay here is what has happened so far. I got my chameleon around august 1st. after a while he started having what seemed like uri problems. that being said i took him to a vet (was told he had experience with chameleons) he said he had an oral infection. I consulted the breeders and they said send him back to them they didn't think that sounded right. Did as they said when they had him he didn't make any popping noises or any of the signs that he showed with me. They observed him he ate drank and shed they believed he was fine and sent him back. Right when i take him out he does a pop from the throat again and I see saliva on the sides when he would open his mouth. He was eating and drinking but the pops and saliva scared me. Is there anyone who can shed some light as to why this would happen? Also I believe it started due to too much moisture at the bottom of his cage. I fixed that by making a draining system and putting a plant where most of the water goes.
 
ok I am going to squeeze in between some of these views and bump along with add something. He is back with the breeders now. I fixed the moisture problem when he first went back. Just trying to get an idea of whats going on here.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Panther chameleon, male, had him for about 2 weeks before problems
Handling - never
Feeding - I feed my cham gut loaded crickets in the morning.
Supplements - calcium no d3 everyday, calcium with d3 twice a month, vitamins twice a month
Watering - Misting system that goes off every 3 hours for 30 seconds. (working on getting mistking)
Fecal Description - Normal droppings brown with white urate has not been tested for parasites
History - from breeder

Cage Info:
Cage Type - screen cage approx 18X18X36
Lighting - Basking light is uva bulb and I use a reptisun 5.0
Temperature - basking spot is around 85 degrees and and other temps range from 70-75
Humidity - humidity is 50% lowest and 70% highest (after a shower) using two hygrometers to get average
Plants - using fake ones along with a schefflera
Placement - in my room closest vent is maybe 30 feet to the left and very low traffic area. In basement
Location - Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Current Problem - just trying to figure what might be happening here.

Well, that makes about 40 people with no ideas. Sorry, I'm one of them, but I came back because there was another post. I still have no idea. How long was he back at the breeders for though?............ If he was ill they should have noticed. If he wasn't then why would he make popping noises and have excess saliva? (unless you are being overly paranoid......but it sounds serious enough to me).

breeders had him back for close to a week and a half. this making me go crazy there is a chance i might just be paranoid i have a video of him popping im going to load it and see what you think. I will explain more when i put it up

Well, if it's any consolation I can tell you that sounds unusual to me :confused:

This is what I have been wondering! but the fact that i saw a decent amount of saliva confuses me. he eats fine and drinks. He is very active, sometimes i see him raise his head like he cant breathe forgot that part as well.
 
i checked out your husbandry and i was wondering if your basement has good air flow? try moving him to a different part of your house, its odd and your husbandry is great. And the breeder would'nt need to lie to you about somthing like that. also what do you gutload your crickets with?

I provide good airflow I open my window and crack my door to provide the airflow. I can move him that is possible. I use cricket crack apples/oranges switching off carrots and various greens that I have read about here on the forums.

I have zero idea. your husbandry is so good and it sounds like your chameleon is pampered to the max. What did the vet say would help his mouth problem?
In Albuquerque there isnt many good exotic vets maybe he called it wrong.
 
Does he seem to take long deep breaths throughout the day? Or puff up and exhale, even when he isn't angry? Pay attention to his breathing, that might give us another piece to the puzzle.

Honestly, I'm not sure what's going on. I've seen Chameleon's with an RI, that only show two or three of the symptoms. As time goes on.. they will display more if left untreated. It's always important to pay close attention. People shouldn't assume their animal is fine if it isn't displaying every symptom. I think it's good that you are being overly cautious. We just need to figure out of he's ill, or just being a hypochondriac. Lol.

I know you stated that he went back to the breeder for a while, but has he been to the vet? I'm sorry if I missed that. It's not good to put a healthy animal through unnecessary treatment, but it's better than leaving an un-healthy animal un-treated. If the problem still persists after treatment.. you may have a Chameleon that's out to drive you crazy. :)

Thanks I am trying my best :). In short he said the color of his mouth was wrong and prescribed eye drops. I think he did I talked to the breeders about it they didnt think it sounded right at all.
 
I couldn't say what he is up too. If he is still active and eating/drinking well that's good. I would watch him well to see if anything else shows up or take him on another vet trip if your really worried. Maybe try a general medicine and see if it helps? Not sure what medications there are or if this could bother him more so hopefully someone else can shed some light on it :eek:

he does puff up and exhale when nothing is wrong. I observe from far. I have also noticed sometimes they are quick breathes. I did take them to the vet that didn't seem to go over very well. He may very well be here to drive me crazy. I thought my job would cause me to have grey hair i'm pretty sure this guy will do it before that haha :).
