My friend is going on a mission trip to Tonga for a year and I was just curious as to if there are any chameleons native to that region. I googled and seemed to get no where, maybe I'm just lazy or naive. But if so, I'd be very interested in seeing what is all there and possibly having some WC's brought back to the U.S. if possible. I know certain species are endangered or even illegal to catch but I know some species are beautiful and need captive care to bring the population back up. So i guess in a nutshell, I'm just curious if anyone has any info on chams in Tonga and what species of chams if there are any. He went to Kenya last year and said there were lots of chams but he isn't a reptile guy so he didn't know a whole lot about them, but when he leaves in July, if there are Wild chams, i plan to have him full of knowledge so that possibly some of the wild gems could be saved and brought to life again. Sorry if this thread is dumb, ignorant, or naive, I'm fairly new to all of the different species as all I've raised have been Jackson's and Veileds.
edit, found a website or data base if you will that named a TON of chams that are in TONGA http://tonga.observado.org/soortenoverzicht_wg.php?q=chameleon&g=3&f=0&z=1&p=0&a=0 check it out if anyone is interested...i wonder the legal status of shipping some of these precious chams back is? most are common and native and not endangered
