I'm sure everyone's sick of hearing about terrible pet stores, but what I saw yesterday just killed me.
I went to the local reptile shop the other day, looking for some superworms. I've only been in there twice before since I get most of my supplies and feeders online. I'll never go back now! Walking in, not one of the 4 employee's acknowledged me. The shop was dirty, cages mislabeled, and it smelled horrible! They had five or six (couldn't tell) adult ball pythons in a small cage.
Then I saw something that absolutely broke my heart. There was a large blue tree monitor for sale in the back. If you don't know what one looks like, go goole it, they're stunning. He was in terrible condition. Almost all of his toes were broken or missing (some of them were broken almost all the way off and just hanging there) he had rub marks, old shed, and what looked like open sores everywhere, especially on his head.
They wanted $700 for him. I wanted to buy him so bad! (and then take him straight to the vet) Just to see if I could save him, but I have no experience with monitors and even if I did buy him, they'd just import another one.
I know everyone's seen or heard about stores like this, but I just had to tell someone. It's killing me knowing he's still stuck there.
