Here are a couple tricks:
- Cornstarch/grits. They love to eat it but cannot digest it, so they die.
- Borax. Natural, they also love to eat it, but they die.
- Cinnamon. They hate it, for some reason, so making little cinnamon barriers around entry points works.
- You can spray orange oil, but it is oily.
- Wash with vinegar and water (50-50 solution), this wipes away the pheromone trails they leave for each other to follow, so they'll loose track of where they were going. Won't eliminate them but keeps them from getting the whole colony to go to and from your cages.
Of course, you can buy pre-made ant traps but I wanted to provide a few pet-safe options too that you can sprinkle around the cage.
