Another Vet Appointment

You can use it and try it. Keep up the warm mist humidifier and warm showers. Watch for either improvement or further decline. I feel like you should see improvement honestly. RIs are very common and are treatable thankfully. Plus, the dose you are using is a little more than what I was using. If it is decreased in it's effectivness the extra amount should help.

Thank you very much. :) I will keep up the humidity and mistings. I just read on another thread that Baytril has a 28 day shelf life, should be clear with no brown or crystals. But if it is brown with crystals, it is just more dilluted because it absorbs moisture from the air.

I hope this is true.

I'm not sure on the shelf life, I think it's longer than 28 days. No brown and no crystals, that's correct. Like I said, I don't know why it turns brown and Dr. A wasn't sure either. I trust totally and completely what Dr. Alfonso has to say and so do many others here. I think you are on the right path though and I hope the best for both of you! :)

Maybe I missed it (because I kind of skimmed through some of the responses) but yes, it should be clear and it should go in the frig. The shelf life will be longer that way (longer than 28 days). Thanks Heather - I totally forgot to say about the higher temps and warm mist humidifier. This is generally why the nebulizer treatments work so well, too.

Does anyone know how effective it is if it's brown? Could it have a flavor added that makes it brown?

I just hate to call out our vet since I've already come up there and been like, I think this is what's wrong, and this is what we need, and then he goes above and beyond and gives me a lot of what we need.

You said..."my vet is very awesome. He gave me PLENTY of Baytril if I ever need it again"...as long as you didn't contaminate it by putting the end of the syringe that you used to give it to the chameleon back into the baytril after it was in the chameleon's mouth.

Ha! Good call. I haven't done that. Kinyonga, you always seem to know a lot about. Happen to know anything about Baytril and it's effectiveness when it's brown?

Dr. Alfonso was asked if Baytril turns brown does that mean it has gone bad. His response was that he imagines so, since he has never seen it turn brown. It should always be a crystal clear liquid.

I don't remember my baytril being brown....can't remember what color it was. :(
It has always worked well for anything I've used it for though.

Baytril

Hey Kevin.....Our baytril is mixed with a slight strawberry syrup flavor thus making it pink. My vet has mixed it with other flavors before such as blueberry, raspberry and a few others that I can't remember. I've seen it blue, pink, red, and even apple green. We usually stick with the strawberry solution. The brown could be a flavor that he mixed in with it. Either way they all had the same effect and worked great.

Hey all, I really want to thank you all for the responses.

I just got off the phone with the vet office and I was told that the Baytril was mixed into the liquid solution from the Baytril pill. She said the pill is brown, making the liquid thick and brown.

She did say that there was liquid Baytril which was clear but it is more expensive.
