Another issue with Omar

A few weeks ago Omar pulled the screening down from the top of his cage while I was at work; He climbed out onto the section of screen and was directly under his heat lamp. As a result he burned his back. It is healing nicely but a few days ago when he pooped in his bug cup, the urates were completely orange. I have a aquazamp and a rain dome that goes off every two hours and he actually runs over to the area under the dome and actively drinks from the leaves so I was a little surprised to see the orange urate. Since that time I have been giving him additional free water from a syringe about 1.5 to 2mls every day. The last poop had significantly less orange to it but still has some orange to it. Would his healing burns increase his insensible water loss? He is otherwise acting fine moving about his enclosure and eating his crickets. We have also been out of silks and horns for a few weeks as I cannot seem to find a vendor that has both. Clouseau's poo is fine.

The burn may have something to do with it. The fact that it is getting better is a very good sign. I would keep giving him water with the syringe until it is back to white.

I know in human burn victims when the integrity of the skin is compromised dehydration is pretty common. Fluid seeps from the burn site. I would imagine for reps it would have the same affect.

I know about human burns and dehydration which is why I was thinking it may have contributed to the orange urate. The eschar is starting to come off and it seems he may have "ripped" some off as the skin underneath bled a little bit. I finally got some Neosporin to put on it so hopefully it will help prevent additional dehydration and infection. Another part where the eschar just came off naturally looks like regular intact skin but has no color to it yet. He also burned of his little spines and they were very pretty.:(
