I purchased this little Nosy be (for a whopping 50 bucks
), from a local breeder, about 3 months ago. It was less then a month old when i bought it and I am proud to say that it is looking great at about 4 months of age. My first impression was that it was a male because it was already starting to show some turquoise coloration on the cheeks at only one month old. However, in the 3 months following, it really hasn't started "coloring-up" the way a male (in my experience) normally would. At this age, my Male Ambilobe was primarily green and was already showing off his blue bars. Now I know that Nosy be's are more monochromatic and don't have the same coloration patterns that Ambilobes do, but if this guy is a male, he simply has some brightening up to do.
This is why I think it is a female. For the most part, this little Nosy is fairly cryptic in coloration and remains dark brown with reddish spots. When it fires up, it shows a lot of turquoise coloration around the cheeks and lateral bars. This turquoise coloration is more vibrant then what I have seen in most female nosy be's at this age, but not as vibrant as a male nosy of this age would typically be. I have taken the "base of the tale method" into consideration but the size doesn't seem to convince me one way or the other. I honestly think its a female, but would greatly appreciate some more experienced opinions.
