Andre The Yemen Chameleon

Hello my name is Paul. Im brand new to this forum so thankyou for having me!

I now have a male yemen chameleon which is 10 months old. Ive had him for 10 days now. This is the first chameleon i have ever had so ive took some pictures of him and the flexarium he now lives in.

I have wanted a yemen chameleon for around 13 years now. Now at the age of 21 i finally have one. His name is andre and at the moment he gets angry when you try to touch him or go near him. So i just leave him to it and feed him gut loaded insects covered in calcium dust and multi vitamins dust. I also give him some salad and veggies.

On the top of his flexarium he has 3 5.0 UV bulbs and also has 2 clamp lamps with 75W bulbs in for a basking spot. He also had another clamp lamp on the side of his cage with a green 100w bulb in just in case the lower section of his cage is cold. But the middle temp is always around 75-85 and basking is around 80-100 depending on which level he sits at.

The humidity is around 50-60% on average and is measured with a digital gauge and 2 normal gauges. He also has 2 zoo med little drippers on the way which ive ordered so he will have both those in the cage soon. I spray his cage around twice a day. He has many plastic plants and also 2 big umbrella plants, 1 spider plant, 2 ficus plants and 1 palour palm. He has various vines around his cage and a couple wooden branches.

I feed him around 4-7 insects a day which may be hoppers or silents crickets along with some salad some days if he wants any.

He is mostly a nice light green colour but at times he has brown spots, sometimes goes slighty dark colours but mainly light green. He is mostly very very active climbing around his cage, but at times he just sits around for hours on end doing nothing.

This is pretty much all the information i can give you about 10 month andre. This is my first chameleon and i have researched them alot. But i you think im doing something wrong, need to take out something and any hints or tips on how to make his life better. It would be very nice if you could reply here and let me know if im doing anything wrong.

Thankyou very much and please check out his pics.

Many Thanks Paul

Welcome to the best Chameleon forum Paul, :)

Iam liking the look of your setup you got there, just a couple of things. You may wish to cover your plant pots with large stones/pebbles so that the little guy does'nt injest the soil and become impacted! and what is that substance you have on the bottom of his cage?

Hello i will have to buy some pebbles to cover the soil then. Also on the bottom there is some form of brown bark which came with the whole starter pack.

Is this stuff good or would you recommend another type of floor covering.

Many thanks Paul

Bin it mate, and just have some paper towels down. It makes it easier for cleaning purposes.

Ok matt thanks alot for your advice. I will remove the bark from the bottom of his enclosure. Then put some paper towels down.

Thanks alot
