My chams love phoenix worms! so i figure i will do a little experiment.

I want to take a few of my phoenix worms that are close to pupating and putting them inside a tiny little earth filled fishtank inside my cham's large 5' long 6'tall enclosure. I figure i will let the worms transform into solider flys and give Sweeney something to hunt down that doesn't hop from place to place or scurry away.

Anyone see any problems with this? i have been told the flys are safe for chams to eat by the way.

Haha, it doesnt bother me in the least, actually i think the little buggers are kinda cute with their wiggling and being kinda cutesy haha.

now, it was like a ton of little critters biting me, then we may have a problem. but i'm pretty okay with things.

Edit:

Actually, Camimom, Would you be able to help me out with another post? i just put one in food asking about how to breed phoenix worms.

there is a member on here that has an outdoor/shed for his Chams and he keeps a Soldiar Fly bin in the enclosure that produces what seems to be an endless supply of flies.

when my colony becomes established, i'll send you a small "colony".

Sounds exciting. I'm new to breeding foods. haha i usually catch wild food for my fish.

Aw. Side note, My little Cham Isis is peeking down at me from behind her leaves! such a cutie! she is getting more comfortable with me! Yay

i dont really do much with them..
i get buy them..
and let them sit in a smlal critter keeper.

then they pupate, turn into soldier flies..

i just feed them leftover gutload. its not a large colony, and i sometimes have to buy more... but its ok.

I used to have tons of tanks but once i got into chameleons i gave up two of my three remaining tanks... sadly
I've bred 6ish species of cichlids, all sorts of plecos, loaches, Catfish, you name it i've probably owned it or atleast drooled over the possibility of owning it!

At the moment i have my african stream set up. its Bichirs, African feather fins, Rope fish which are in the same family as bichirs ( Polypteridae) African butterfly fish, And i have the last of my jewel cichlids in the tank as well as some assorted plecos.

Catfish are my specialty when it comes to fish, and bichirs have stolen my heart!!!

going back to the food question, i catch an assortment of river insects, scud during the spring and fall, lots of nymphs when season is in, and tons of minnows for the bichirs.

I also raised bullhead catfish for year, got them as hatchlings!

Haha i think the most i had at one point in time was 16. Smallest being 1.5 gallon, largest being 55, most being 10-29 gallons. those were mostly for fry. I'm obsessed. Just to think, now i have another obsession to add to the collection! haha. i will say, Chameleons outrank all the fish i've ever kept save two, as far as difficulty. Discus and mudskippers were the hardest animals i've kept, Mudskippers because i do not simply want them to live, but thrive, which meant creating an ecosystem in which they could survive! haha...
Discus are just a pain in the butt when it comes to trying to find disease free specimens.

The things we do for the animals we love. haha

I also design custom tanks for people who want help creating a well rounded, self sustaining ecosystem inside their tanks!
