Alligator

I had a caimen about 15 years ago, I fed it crickets and goldfish. It was a mean little sucker. I actually traded him for my first chameleon, a male veiled that I named Shag, lol.

The one I had was only a foot or so long and I only had him for 6 months or so. I thought it was so awesome until I saw a chameleon and had to have one instead. My veiled lived with me for a good seven years, the oldest lizard I ever owned.

I grew up in Florida with those things. No way would I advise one as a pet unless you own a zoo. They get hugeee.

Alligators are awesome! Intelligent, charismatic, relatively calm (compared to say the caimans) and they do get to know their handlers. They are fun fun fun to work with.

All that said they get big; I mean really big and you will need a big and I mean really big enclosure with deep water for swimming. If you can’t provide that then don’t bother. It’s not fair to the animal and while the crocodilians aren’t as prolific as say the large pythons, monitors and iguanas in reptile rescues they are dumped with regularity. Join a local herp society or zoo and learn from and play with their animals first before you commit to a crocodilian.

Well I was thinking of actually starting mo own zoo lol bit that will prob be a whyle from now ... have yall ever seen the gator boys they are from fl and I watch them they use gators as education for others I would like to do that

I live 5 minutes away from them :D all the gators they catch are in the city where I live.

Space and food will be an issue usually as with any animal. If I had some property and some ponds. I most defiantly would have some gators . As for typical pet in house no way and tanks are just out of the question.

Ive been to south florida 6 times and never seen any, was kind of disappointed.

I used to work with alligators in my grandfather's zoo, don't get one unless you know what you're doing and you're absolutely committed. These guys will get big, sometimes to an excess of 10 feet and up to 600 pounds. Every bit of their bodies is dangerous and they can have stormy tempers. Think about it and do some research if you really want to get one, but my advise is to not get one and avoid the trouble.

Ok well there is this man on craigslist that has a baby dwarf caiman for sale for 200 dollars and he wont take 150 do you think that is a good deal?
