what is the safest age to start breeding and if i dnt knw there exact age how can i find it out since i bought them from petstore's that bought them from different breeders and i dnt knw exactly when they were born???..... thanks :D

For a veiled one year or older. I didn't breed Camille until she was 17 months old. If you breed to early the eggs take away calcium from the female that her body still needs.

ok and how old should a male be?? Jann , thanks again for such great info ... i been owning veileds for years and now im thinking about breeding since i all ready breed beardies\....so excitited:D

For me, breeding is based on size rather than age. I've had beastly females at 5 months that were larger than slower yearlings. As stated by jannb, the male will reach sexual maturity more quickly. This also seems to be a matter of size rather than age, at 70 grams or so, a male is ready to go no matter how long it took him to get there. Unfortunately, the females also can be bred before they are large enough to do so safely.

for veileds and panthers at least 65-70+ grams. The older and bigger the better. If it's a pet though, I would wait until you've had her for at least 10 months so you're sure and so she will be healthy.

Some of my babies weighed that between 3 & 4 month old.

Well, you raised some huge babies :) Most babies are no where near that size! Pan was twice the size of his brother at 6 months old (and about 80 grams,) and I thought i wasn't feeding him enough! Maybe we feed too much

Camille weighted 81 grams at 5 months old and 99 grams at 6 months. I didn't raise her....she was 4 1/2 months old when I got her.

u knw where i can get a scale to weight in grams ??

You can buy a gram scale cheap on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/WeighMax-Digita...all_Kitchen_Appliances_US&hash=item1e5cfc2bf3 or you can buy one at Wal Mart with the small kitchen appliances. They have a bowl on top and they are really for weighing food but they work great for chams. I put a wash cloth over the bowl to give them something to grip on to, zero out the scale and then put the cham on. You can weigh from the smallest baby right up to largest Melleri

Food section of walmart/target/etc. Get a food scale. Or go to a smoke shop and get one.

Geeze Jann, maybe florida just has amazingly huge babies... The 4-5 month olds I see here are never, ever that big... not unless they've only eaten mealworms their whole life at a petsmart :(

You two are comparing apples to oranges. Panthers and Veileds. Veileds will be bigger faster and weigh more at the same age as a panther.

Me? I'm talking veileds mannnnn.

Oh I see that now. I thought you were just talking panthers. That way your information looked more accurate. Now I see you are all crazy. jk jk They are different veiled and panthers for breeding size and weight.

I have bred when they get big enough but as a general rule I wait at least 9 months to a year like Jann was saying. Its much easier for me to get a feeling they are ready that way. No need to rush it.

Jim Nozaki from Amazing Blue Reptiles, the first speaker at the Daytona Reptile Show Chameleon Symposium, he raises panthers and he said he goes by weight and didn't breed until 74 grams BUT like Ryan said panthers are much small than veileds. My daughter has had some panther females that were so tiny they didn't even weigh 74 grams at one year old.
