Advice needed

Well I have done a lot of soul searching and I am in a situation which I hate & I really need some advice.

I dont wish to say too much but I am in a nasty situation at home and I have to leave.

So....I have 2 options either giving him up on a temp basis for a month until I get a new place or giving him up for good. I am leaning towards giving him up for good as I know they shouldn't be moved around too much and have new surroundings and I don't want him to have the extra stress of travel, new faces and a new environment only to be uprooted and have to do it again in a month or 2.

I could have put him up for sale but my only main concern for my cham is his safety, health and happiness and I cant give him the attention that he will need and he cant be traveling around in a car for a few weeks and none of my friends are near or capable of looking after him.

So a bit about my boy. He is a 10 month old Ambilobe Blue Barred Panther, he comes from a reputable breeder, is really good natured and he is just starting to really come into his beautiful colors. Once he knows you he will walk onto your hand or branch to come out of his cage but I never over handle him.
He only comes out for cage cleaning or for some time in the sun. He occassionally gapes and hisses if startled but has never bitten or even tried to. He has never been sick (there was 1 time after he finished his 1st shed with me that he went to the bottom of his cage for a few hours....but that was my fault. Not enough humidity and his temps in the cage were too hot....he just needed to get cool).

There are heaps of piccies of him in the gallery and there are some more here. My photos don't do him justice.

He will come with his dripper, lighting, heat lamp, light timer, temp and humidity guages, fiscus plant (if you want it) bio vines, vitamins and
supplements and I have just ordered him a whole month of food. (crix, silkies and superworms). The only thing I dont have is a cage - he needs
a 24 x 24 x 48 or bigger as he likes his space. The one I have is borrowed and will have to go back.

I would like him to go to a keeper that has some experience only as he deserves a good life and he has had to put up with me......a complete novice with chams for the last 6 months. (He was very patient and tolerant in training me while I learnt)

If anyone is interested in him I am happy to drive him and all his stuff anywhere in Cali. I dont particulary want to ship him but will if needed.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can keep him (he would need somewhere to live for a month) then I am open to anything.

If I cant keep him then hopefully in 6 months when I am settled I can then start again with a new Panther or 2.

George,

I'm sure there are going to be people who are able to take care of your chammy for some time. From what I see here, there is an established chameleon community in CA that should be able to help you out.

Hello, George

There are some reptile stores that can watch your cham, but they charge per day. If your really interesting in letting him go...let me know.

I will take him. I live in the Bay Area like 2hrs and could drive up there. I could house him for you until you find a place or keep him permanently. I have 3 years experience and have two chams of my own. He would have a great home with me.

Probably more people did not reply because it looked like the other replies would meet your needs satisfactorily.

Let us know how it goes.

I will take him. I live in Modesto...not too far. I'll send you a PM with some background as well. :) Would also be willing to "hold" him for you while you get settled if this is what you would rather do.

Wow!!! What a guy. It is so great to see that you care about your cham like you do, it's too bad you can't keep him because you obvious care about him alot. I live on the East Coast and i see that other people closer to u are probably a better bet otherwise i would take him for you and keep him till you got set up cause i think it is so great that you are willing to go to such an extent for your baby. I hope things work out for you.
