just got my first veilled hes 7mths old, his basking temp is at 80 siting good ,if his temp goes above 85-87 can i just put in a lower watt bulb.hes just hiding at the back ov his viv at the moment, just spray misted the viv &set up his dripper, workin well drippin on to his plant. im just gettin paranoid coz i havnt seen him drink yet, also if i put some dusted hoppers in now will i hav to take them out at his bedtime or can i leave hoppers in .advice would b greatly appreciated.

An 85-87 basking temp is fine. Some people never see their cham drink, I rarely ever see Tini drink. Just check fecals and make sure the urate is white to insure he's getting hydrated. If he goes to bed all the insects should be taken out. And since you just got him, (congrats by the way where are pics.? Lol) it might take him a while to get fully acclimated and want to drink. So just be patient and check his fecal. :)

Yeah, 85 is a good temp for a male veiled. Take out as many insects as you can find before bed time. Some insects will chew on the chameleon while they sleep and cause damage.

Perhaps putting some cricket food/fruit/veggies in the bottom of the viv would keep crix from biting the lizard. Still remove any uneaten feeders, but any you miss should go down to the food instead of biting your chameleon.

That might work to a degree, but crickets particularly tend to be vicious! The black ones especially. They will attack one another and eat eachother even when they have plenty of food. It's best to just remove them.

Alright. I don't free range any feeders besides roaches as Pepito usually cup feeds anyway. My crix are all the tan colored ones, not the blacks.
