Advice needed on outdoor enclosure

Hey all! I am in planning stages of an outdoor enclosure for the panthers. It will not be a permanent home, but just a retreat on nice days for fresh air and natural sun rays. I am looking at using galvanized wire mesh. But I'm not sure if 1/4 inch squares or 1/2 inch squares. Is there a benefit of difference? Would 1/4 inch offer more protection from ill meaning birds (or am I being paranoid)? What sort of mesh does everyone else use?

(It will be 5ft long, 5ft tall and 2 feet deep)

I'd go with as small as you can get.
Sun-rays won't have a problem reaching your animal and smaller mesh gives more protection against potential predators that would possibly be able to reach in the cage trough the mesh.
