Hey everyone, does anyone have advice for me? I have a month old baby male jackson who today started looking pale and has his eyes closed. He is still eating his pinheads but he's a lot slower and sometimes opens his mouth wide. He is sleeping now with his mouth cracked open some. He is the last survivor from a clutch of 8 born from my adult female. I've seen all of the other babies from his clutch die days later after acting in a similar way so I'm kind of waiting to what happens. Oh he has a dripper, humidity stays around 70-80, temp between 75-80, with a reptisun uv bulb. Any advice is appreciated

really need the help form for something like this. by one month he should be well past pinheads. even neonates need a variety of feeders, feeding all pinheads all the time is a good way to get the ca/p ratio all out of whack. have you been supplementing with anything other than plain calcium? if so stop. given the known history of the clutch it could be that they were all born with compromised health to begin with. imo, fecal microscopy (smears) should have been done on day one. realistically not much you can do at that stage in terms of treatment. im not trying to be callus, thats just the way it is. i know its a helpless feeling to watch them drop one,x,one. i have been there, and it is real heartbreaking. i would keep your temps below 80 and actually mist about 5x a day, a linear is probably better than a cfl. try to get him to eat something besides cricks, although to be honest, i would say any miracle saves are probably unlikely at this point. advance preventative preparation is your best defense. you might try some outside time. jmo

you're already saying that he's fatally sick based off closed eyes and slow movement? don't jump the gun quite yet.

to the OP, please fill out the help form that is stickied at the top of the forum. It will help out a lot!

I think he's just trying to "prepare for the worst"...mixed in there is some advice.

realistically speaking

not trying to be negative, just realistic. the neonates are so fragile (biochemically speaking), and it is hard enough to keep thriving ones healthy. they are too small to medically treat or diagnose with any degree of safety and if there are any sort of parasite issues, there is really not much you can do about it until they get older. they are too small and fragile to test for blood chemistry issues, even if you were able to identify bc issues, there is very little that can be done at that stage, without jepordizing them further. the best thing you can do is give them plenty of water, good diet, and real sun, any sort of treating or supplementation is only likely to make things worse. ime, when a neonate (<3months old) starts to go downhill, its rare that they make a comeback, i hope you prove me wrong, but we shall see. post birthing is an especially crucial time for the mother, and her needs are something you might actually have a chance of addressing before they cause issues. we all wish for the best possible outcome, but you have to have realistic expectations. sorry, i have no miracle saves for ailing neonates, if anyone has any, by all means please post them. if you are in a position to do one, it still wouldnt hurt to do a fecal smear, just to have some idea of what you are dealing with, but, realistically speaking, the best time to address neonate health issues, is before they are born. jmo
