my adult male panther chameleon I've had for a week sleeps on his branch without really holding on. Is this a problem?

That is a major red flag, one of his back ankles looks really swollen ... vet visit is needed. Honestly there will not be a husbandry fix for this.

I'm not too familiar with this chameleon yet ,as I've only had him for a week, but could this be gout? I've noticed he's always thirsty so he gets misted a lot throughout the day, I've only fed him calicium (without D3) dubias.

It could be several things. Do you know anything about his passed care? It could be MBD or gout... Also an infection AND caused by kidney failure... etc.

That sounds like he knows something was wrong which worries me... did you pay for him?

I would message him back and say the chameleon is sick.
I messaged him earlier and he says its most likely an injury caused during shipping because he was in perfect condition before he was shipped. He told me just to place him in a smaller enclosure (his current one is 2ft x 2ft x 4ft) and let him heal.

That is bs, @kinyonga idk how to handle a situation like this with a seller do you? Did he offer a complete refund? Or something? I bet if you take him into the vet it will show this has been happening far longer than expected.

I mean has he slept like this the entire time he's been with you? How was ge packaged? Was he sent in something that would have made it easy to make him break his leg with just some jostling during shipping?

The seller hasn't mentioned a refund, just about placing him in a smaller enclosure and watch him heal. I don't think that's a very good idea. He will most likely end up at the vet before the end of today im just trying to save as much money as I can. But if there isn't a home remedy I'll go with professional help.

Actually the way and the process of how Gabor (my Cham) was shipped bothered me. He was just tied up in a pillow case with a ton newspaper shreds inside and outside the pillow case. Almost seemed kind of suffocating. The walls were padded with styrofoam. But when I received the box there was no "live animal" or "fragile" on the outside. Just "priority mail" so who knows how he was treated. The mail man didn't even ring the door bell. Good thing i checked before it got too hot (I live in Texas and it's summertime).

The pillow case method can work, but usually it's a burlap sack (more airflow) and I think they have moss or something inside so they can cling to it better and it hold humidity better. In my opinion he should have used balled up newspaper and compacted well but still slightly loose so to offer more cushioning. The fact that he didn't at least mark fragile all over the box and handle with care etc. Is what worries me most. I do that obsessively even with my insects... I don't like the sounds of who sent him to you... was he a forum sponsor?

If he was you might want to contact a member of the staff directly and warn them. From what I understand C.F. takes breeders who do this and are sponsors very seriously. Definitely get him check out by the vet, and if you can prove it has been happening for a while... medical records can't be refuted.

I found him on Fauna Classifieds. I think it's gout and this seller is just being shady. He's stopped answering.

Since it's the weekend it's $180 just to walk in the vets door so im going to try to wait until Monday. This is just a bad deal
