As a new Member I wanted to post an observation i had while Feeding my New Male Panther Chameleon.
I was given some Butter worms as a kind Extra with my order but Since i Have a Savannah Monitor As well As 12 different species of Arachnids,I also keep a B.Dubia Roach colony.
With All my spiders I'm observation only Except when rehousing I'm hands off.
Not do to Fear ,but out of respect.Watching a Spider hunting or Ambushing always astonished me but what i experienced today with my Panther Chameleon really Blew My mind to the point where i just needed to share the Experience.
Knowing that Chameleons use their eyes and tongues to Hunt i was just expecting that! but instead i got a lesson in Chameleon Camouflage!
Ok so here we Go...Having chomped down two butter worms that i dropped on a big cup like Croton leaf I knew I had his attention.
I selected two appropriate sized roaches gave them a little light dust then let one in.
It began to crawl toward the Panther both hunter and prey hanging vertically.
To my amazement the Panther moved into the croton plant turing 180 degree
so his head was now facing the Roach but this is where it got interesting ..
The Panther face turned a yellow pink almost the same color as the Croton leaves but just his face the remainder of his body remained blue green and white!
So The Panther just turned his face invisible to engage his prey ,after seeing this live display I'm Hooked What a Fascinating Creature !!
This whole story might be a WELL DUH!! moment but i really only experienced the color change do to moods not hunting so this experience Blew my Mind !!
Please Share any awesome Hunting tales or Insane Color changes
