A Greenhouse Surprise!!

The snakes are out and about this time of year. Our neighbor Jamie just knocked on our door frantic that she had a Rattlesnake on her front door mat to her house and asked if I would kill it. I went up for a look and it was a Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer catenifer). I grabbed it behind the head with my hands and do not think Jamie heard me say it was a Gopher Snake because she looked almost as though she was going to faint. Anyways I relocated the little guy to a rock pile well away from the house. However sorry no pictures as I have got to pick up a new battery pack for my camera LOL:D.

I was watering and feeding everyone who was inside the greenhouse today. Then to my surprise I found this baby Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) inside my greenhouse.

Doing some yard work out back last weekend and uncovered a very sleepy eastern diamondback! He wasn't very active and eventually just moved into the bamboo about 3 feet away. Funny, he was just under a small pile of leaves. Didn't expect that!

Aweeesssome!!! Wish I had rattler in my yard! thanks for sharing man.

I was happy to see him there! (Just gotta be a bit careful, but they are cool!)

Sickk. But where there is one, there will be more. Be careful where you step

Well said! ;)

I've got to remember my camera when doing work in the yard, but I usually have it right next to the cham cage!!! :D:rolleyes:

This is a weird post your responding as thought this is your thread?:D No No!

We officially have got a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox) living in the rose and other bushes in out back yard. Occasionally late at night when one of our sprinkler systems goes off I hear a rattle snake rattle go off. Then a couple weekends ago I spotted the rattler when I was collecting rose leaf cuttings. I went to catch him and move him to another location because if my father find him the snake is dead and the snake made it down a hole. However about an hour ago the sprinkler system went off again and I heard the rattler rattle again. Being a big fan of herps I hope I locate him before anyone else does because if anyone else does this rattle snake is going to be killed.

NICE!!!:D Glad you decided to relocate instead of kill. Way too many people ignorantly kill snakes.

There are circumstances where it's appropriate. If you have small children, and have no means of safely relocating the snake, then I wouldn't frown on killing it. It's a very dangerous snake. And small children can easily get themselves bit.

I got my ID wrong. This little Rattlesnake is to the best of my knowledge a Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus oreganus) not a Western Diamond Back. Sorry snakes are not my thing however I figured I would post an update.

Best Regards
