i get wild grass hoppers out of my yard. its really over grown with grass and my room mates never spray it or mow it but they have dogs (2) and there out there alot. I was wondering if in any way this would make it unsafe or if the fleas from the dogs or them being out there alot would make it in any way unsafe for me to feed my cham wild got from my yard. my cham gets really bored with his store got crickets and likes to be picky some times. so i like to get him hoppers out of my yard (the green ones) he loves these and will eat as many as i can put in there. Most the time he eats them right away but never are there any left at the end of the day but with the crickets he will leave some some times. he prob eats just as many wild got or more than he dose store got plus there free

if you already feeding them then i guess they're safe. gutload them like you would crikets before feeding off and make shure you get them in a wild area with no pesticides. :)

what i wanted to know is dose any one know if the dogs sharing the same yard as the one i get my grasshoppers out of has any neg affects on the feeders. such as fleas from the dogs or any thing of that sort. kinda late to ask i know and i don't see any thing wrong but if any one knows other wise plz let me know so i can stop.

any one? im sure some one will get on that knows for sure. i know it sounds dumb but i wana make sure what i am doing is ok. wild got is now a big part of his diet and he loves it. i still get some crickets from the store to so he has a change here and there.

gutload them like you would crikets before feeding off

Do you really think that´s necessary?
In my opinion the diet the insects eat when they´re outside is the best they can get, otherwise there won´t be that many of them around.
If you try and gutload them yourself, by the time your chameleon gets them, their last meal from outside will already be gone.

There will be a better chance of parasites from wild grasshoppers. I would rinse them off before feeding. Also if you are going to use wild caught feeders then you should do frequent fecal checks with a vet to make sure he isn't getting a lot of parasites from the wild prey.

Here in Europe everybody feeds wc insects and i never heard about any problems as long as there has been no inctizides or something on them.
Don´t know how this is in America however.
