A few Questions...

I have a few questions about a Panther Chameleon.

1:How many crickets should I keep at one time for a single male, when I get it, It will be 3-4 mounths old. and how many should I feed per day?

2: When I go on vacation, what should I do? Not go on Vacation? Take him with me? Get a Cham sitter? Give him lots of food before I go?

3: Should my little Bichon Frise Dog be aloud in the room?? i dont think she is big enough to do any harm, but stress wise, what should I do?

4: Ok, this one is kind of weird, but...Do chameleons pee??? I know its weird, but I want to know...

well for a growing cham i would do about a dozen a day for crickets. a feeding bowl with worms as an option as well, maybe 4 a day. i did read that overfeeding could make your cham grow to fast and cause MBD. correct me if Im wrong. as far as vacation goes nobody will take care of him like you will, unless they have a cham. i take mine with me everytime i leave.i have a jack russel and he has never even noticed my chams before, but heavy traffic can be stressful on them. pee i dont think so.lol

about 18 crix/day until he reached 5 to 6 months old, it can be reduced

Either don't go or get a cham sitter. giving him lots of food is not an option

NOOOOO! never allow any potential predator around your cham

4: Ok, this one is kind of weird, but...Do chameleons pee??? I know its weird, but I want to know...yes. they pee and poop at the same time. the white color part of the poo is his pee. It seem to me that you are a bit under research about your cham. may i suggest you research first be4 purchasing your chameleon. you'll save a lot of money and heartache by doing so.

Hanna, There's alot of first time cham owners on here and the reason most of us are saying to do more research is because we know what kind of mistakes can be made. We've made most of them ourselves. There's a lot to learn but their worth it. Good luck and don't hesitate to ask a question even if you think it's stupid. We've all been there at one time or another

Hey Hanna,

On top of what everyone else has said here's a few ideas for a vacation. You could get a misting system as long as there's a spot for it to drain. You could put the lights and misting system on timers and make an Auto-Feeder as suggested in this thread:

https://www.chameleonforums.com/my-experimental-auto-feeder-6724/

Ensure that all of these things are working properly before you go away. Have them all running weeks before so you can monitor that everything is running smoothly. Your cham can handle several days without food but don't let it go too long.

For instance ... if you go away for a week and you have all the above mentioned things working for you but your cricket supply is gone by day 4 or 5 you should be OK until you get back.

I took a vacation last summer and had a dripping system and timers for my lights. I fed my chams very well for a few days before I left and had someone come in 2 or 3 times within' the week I was gone to give them food and spray the enclosures. I was very worried about them but all seemed fine when I got back.

Like other people have suggested do as much research as you can before you even get your cham. I think most of us here wish that we had. It will save a lot of work and expenses later on.

GOOD LUCK!!

Dyesub Dave. :D
