92 More Melleri Eggs!!

There is an unwritten rule in my house that all chams and geckos wait until I am out of town to lay their eggs or for the eggs to hatch. Such is the case once more.....

Some of you are familiar with my Melleri female, Newbie, who laid 74 eggs at the end of June (she just had to wait until I was away at the Super Show :(). After 2 months, all the eggs ended up being infertile. We had hope for her when we discovered the other adult "assume the position" a few times as if trying to mate with her (see https://www.chameleonforums.com/labor-day-melleri-mating-30076/). Well, on Saturday, while I was at the show in Puyallup, Newbie laid 92 eggs!! She ended up stepping on a lot of the eggs (because she refuses to lay in her laying bin but, instead, lays them in her cricket bucket ) so there a few that I am positive will not make it but there is sure a lot of hope for the rest of them. I just got in early this morning and then had to head off for work shortly thereafter, so I didn't get a chance to check on Newbie, but it is my understanding that she was being her usual piggy self yesterday and is doing just fine. I will upload some pictures when I get them later today.

If 1/2 of those are fertile you are going to have a bunch of babies running around lol. Good luck with them :) I hope they are all fertile and you get to watch 90 melleri babies run around

Congratulations Julie,,, don't worry, I have kept track of all of your so-called friends who didn't return your text sharing your joyous news.... how rude!

Julie that is super. 92, that is alot of eggs. If you have that many babies I will raise part of them until you are ready to sell them, then I will send them home. I would love to help care for melleri babies.:)

That is pretty awesome. I think i just found my new local breeder. I hope all goes well have you have to feed 92 babies.

Well shoot, I am pratcially a god parent since I was there at the announcement, but I will hold out for some LOCAL melleri. :D

Thanks guys! Yeah, I am really hoping for this group of eggs. I will be sure to mark your requests down. I had some people in line for the last clutch (that ended up not making it) so I'm sure they will want to envoke the "roll-over" rule to this clutch. :) (you people know who you are so you better speak now....)

Me Too! Me Too!

Put me down for a babe too! I want to get a Megana (Gegang) babe to go with it :p You all are going to have to walk me through this whole process once I am blessed with some eggs from my Layla. It was great meeting you at the show Julie :) I posted a thread about the show in the photography section. It includes a video of your new Ambilobe male eating a very large hornworm. Keeping my fingers crossed for your Melleri eggs!

so I gather you didn't have a hard time finding and retriving the eggs, huh? :p

Funny story here. Actually, she refused to lay in her laying bin and instead layed them in her cricket bucket. The first time around, we didn't know she was "expecting" (or even that she was a female) so there was no laying bin and she layed in her cricket bucket. Since then, there has been a laying bin in her cage and she went right for the cricket bucket instead.

I saw the video of my newly purchased boy and it's fabulous - what a pretty boy he is!! Thanks! Sandy and I will be more than happy to help you with
any egg advice we can give you, although I am certainly not the expert here. Sandy's/Megana's eggs are looking pretty darn good, if you ask me. She's lucky I didn't swipe a few while I was there! :p

Apparently, a video has surfaced of Newbie laying those eggs (all 500 grams of her squished into her cricket bin - which is why she stepped on half of them) which I didn't know was taken. I have yet to see it, but will hopefully be able to post it soon, too.
