6500k bulbs rock my face.

Yep, finally went to Lowe's and picked up the dual fixture they have and one of the 6500k bulbs...like two days after getting it set up there were tons of new leaves coming out of my umbrella plant. Now (about a week later), it looks like a totally new plant and there are basically no leaves dropping. Why didn't I do this sooner? It was fairly cheap, I think $14 for the fixture and like $6 for the bulb. Then I had to change the fixture's wiring so it actually had a plug, but I had that stuff laying around the house. Definitely worth it. I was very surprised and pleased.

I can feel a little heat if I almost touch it. It puts off more than the reptisun...which is none. But the temps in the setup haven't been effected at all.

it didn't come with a plug?

Negative, the only fixture I could find was made to just wire into a switch. Oh well, at least this way I got to make the cord as long as I wanted, haha.

oooh ok... it's a T12 lamp too?

interesting. I operate the 48" T8 fixture from them and the T8 6500K lamps with a Zoo Med T8 5.0 or 10.0... I span the 48" fixtures over two cages... or in the free range.

Ahh, yea the T12 reptisuns were on sale at PetCo so I bought several, then just got the dual fixture and T12 6500k to go with it.

Don't suppose anyonw knows where I'd find one of these in the UK do you? Trying to find information on the bulbs on the internet is proving to be harder than I anticipated. They all have ridiculous names/codes!

I was in Lowes & H-Depot tonight and was almost ready to buy the dual fixture and the GE 6500K when I forgot if the 24" Reptisun 5.0 was T8 or T12 (I dont have the bulb yet, and couldn't remember all I seen in this post) I'm going to order it in the morning unless the place in the next town has it in stock.

ZooMeds specs on the bulb per their website:

Item Number: FS-24
Size: 24"
Dimension: T8
Wattage: 20W

Is this one from LLL T12 or T8? I'm just gettin more confused the more I search, lol.. I'm guessing its the above specs

Whats the brand and model of the dual fixture you bought? The only one I found at either store was $22+ but thats maybe b/c I was lookin at the T8 fixtures...

I almost had it, if it wasnt for second guessing  myself..

I don't know for sure but I think the 24" T8 lamps are 18w? where the T12 is a 20w?

The 48" T8 lamps are 32w.... and a 48" T12 is 40w

Call LLL and see what the lamp wattage is. Ask them to look at the LAMP.... not the packaging.

Zoo Med T8 box mis-print.

I just bought 2 6500k bulbs and a dual light fixture for under $20 from wal-mart... I have one question do you have yours hanging above the cage or lating ontop the cage?

Well I got hosed today, both by rain and the PS in the next town over :(

I called them, asked if they had the ReptiSun 5.0 in a 24 inch bulb, the girl said "yes, one left", so I asked her to look at the bulb itself and tell me the watts and the size. She said " 24 inch, T8, 20 watts", I said hold it like your life depends on it I'll be right over. Then off I went happy as a clam

I get to the store and sitting on the counter with my name on it is a 24", 5.0, "ReptA*Sun" bulb  then

Not wanting the 30miles to be a complete waste I bought the bulb thinking it can be a backup later down the road & it was only $11...

Now off to Wally-Mart across the street, no dual fixtures, nor a single for a 20watt, 24" T8. Lowes here I come!! I get to Lowes and same as WM, they had nothing that would fit the bulb... I asked a Lowes Lighting Specialist :p can I put the 20watt bulbs in a 17watt max fixture, and he said nope the bulb will be under powered, prolly burn out quick & not give the output the cham needs.. Fair enough, he wears a name tag, I don't.

So now I'm home and nothing to show for it except a new pile of plants that will get all wilty in the cage, yippy, lol... I'm going to call LLL when they open, maybe they can shed some light on this. (pun intended)

Edit: Just got off the phone with LLL, the T12, 20w reptisun 5.0's are no longer being made. brandon buy up all the ones you can find :) back to the drawing board for me..
