5.0 UVB Reptisun for baby veiled...how many hours a day?

Hey I am getting a male baby veiled but read on a web page that because of the sensitivity of the eyes in a baby veiled that the UVB should be only on for 4 hours? And that it should be about 6 - 8 inches from the top so that it doesn't burn the eyes? Is this true?

I've used the long linear fluorescent UVB Repti-sun 5.0 tube light in a double fluorescent fixture over veiled hatchlings for years. I put a regular fluorescent light in the other half of the fixture. The hood with the light in it rests on the screen lid of the cage. It has never caused a problem. I leave it on 12 to 14 hours a day depending on the season.

Some compacts, spirals and even some tube lights have caused eye/health issues in chameleons, but there have been no reports of that with the Repti-sun 5.0 long linear tube.

I've never heard of that before. To my knowledge, the general rule is to provide a 12hr on and 12hr off light cycle. I wouldn't worry much about the UVB 'burning' the eyes of your chameleon.

As kinyonga said, there have been reported issues with the compact bulbs but none with the linear tubes.
