5.0 or 10.0 UVB?

Good morning...

So I am ordering a new UVB tube today and I was wondering which you all recommend for a Panther.

I have always ordered a 10.0 but I have seen in a few post that some suggest a 5.0

Also in the lighting guide it says either is ok. I thought it would be a good idea to clarify for anyone who might be confused on this subject.


What would be your recommendation and why?

5.0 is for babies and n00bs with zero follage in the cage. 10.0 is fine for a 3-4ft tall cage with at least 1 shrubbery. Hell the arcadia 6% put out more than double the 10.0, so you are perfectly safe.

Assuming cage is 3-4' tall: veils 10.0 ; male panthers 5.0 ; female panthers 10.0

10.0 for any chameleon is fine, except babies under 6 weeks I use 5.0's. Mainly because they are in much shorter/smaller cages.

5.0 through screen a lot of times isn't enough UVB.

This is why I choose a 10.0, but of course things I have read here have me questioning my knowledge on the subject.

Why the difference between male and female Panther?

Females require higher supplement levels than males and also produce eggs. I have had great results since making the change. Healthier eggs and females. (Make sure to have available hides and branch heights. They will adjust themselves to needed requirements.)
