My veiled is a female. What sex is your veiled?
My female veiled lives happily in a 16x17x30.
There is no need for a 24x24x48 for a female.
You can certainly house her in a huge cage if you have all kinds of room .... but it's not necessary.

I believe there is a safety and security issue as well.
While my male enjoys patrolling his 24x24x48 enclosure ... securing the boundries, scouting for food and trespassers ... the female seems to enjoy hanging out in her favorite spot for most of her awake time.
The screen walls do offer her some sense of security and it is my feeling that being in a smaller enclosure gives her less to worry about and reduces her stress. She seems to prefer surveying her territory over patrolling it.
This is all speculative of course, but I've come to this conclusion through many hours of observation and from getting to know these animals.
You do (and we've talked about this before) start to get a sense for what they need over time that can't be explained ... you just have to develop it.
Keep in mind too that the cages are positioned high in the room (within a few inches of the ceiling) ... this helps them feel safe as well.
