First of all- I love this forum and the information it provides.
My Veiled Chameleon, Wendy is about 2-3 years old, I believe. (I adopted her in October 2019 from a rescue and was told the vet estimated her age to be about 2.)
She eats a moderate diet but is a bit picky.. usually loves to eat hornworms about twice a week, I give her large mealworms, (about 6/day; calcium dusted every 2-3 days) and about 8-10 small crickets/every other day with dusting occurring once a week. She has little interest in eating any kind of fruits/veggies herself but the crickets seem to enjoy carrots, spinach, sliced orange and peaches every once in a while.
She has two enclosures, one of which is the large reptibreeze mesh cage and recently I purchased a top mesh glass enclosure because I was having issues with keeping the humidity in the screen cage. I used substrate in the glass enclosure at the suggestion of the rescue I adopted her from for the humidity and I mist the enclosure about twice a day since it does seem to help with humidity. I am transitioning her back to the mesh cage today because it is taller and I purchased a reptifogger to help with keeping the humidity in a healthy range for her and the glass one is much shorter which I believe limits her mobility as she does move around quite a bit on her vines.
I am a first time reptile owner but my BIG questions here..
I am currently in Oklahoma City, and am relocating this week to Tucson, Arizona. I’ve had some concerns about stressing her out during the move and also keeping her habitat comfortable for her while keeping her in the car with me for a 15 hour road trip. Does anyone have any experience with long distance traveling with their Cham and advice for making the transition easier for her. There is an added complication that has come to light this morning because she is starting to shed. I’ve read here that this also is stressful for chams and definitely explains her loss of appetite the last 36 hours or so.
I don’t have a choice for when I have to be moved by as I have to start in my new work location by the 19th. Should I leave her in the care of my more experienced friends until she is done shedding or look for alternatives to transporting her?
Thank you in advance!
