10 Gallon Fish tank Ok for Veiled egg laying spot?

Not from what I understand. They need a bin at least 12 inches deep round is better. I am using a trash can I got from walmart. The smaller bathroom type.

Dude chill out, this I'm sure has been covered a thousand times. Instead of making a new thread every time you have a question about doing something you're way not ready for how about you search and do lurking through old threads to answer your questions, just no posting in them, don't want to bring old threads back to life. And Rachel is spot on with the trash can.

Easy Al, Everyone was a first timer once and was worried about their little friend and didn't want to do them any harm. I know I had questions when I signed up and the search option didn't jump out at me. I also had trouble searching and actually getting answers. If you don't wish to read or respond to these questions, just pass over them.

I kind have to agree with Al, instead of making new threads all the time, just search through old ones, you have plenty of time because your not anywhere near ready for breeding yet, we all try to help but sometimes it can get excessive

A fish tank is a bad idea because it is clear. You want a solid dark coloured laying bin, so that when she digs down, it is a nice dark tunnel. She is trying to HIDE the eggs. If she digs down 6 inches and sees light through glass (or even a white plastic) she will think, "drat! this is no good" and have to start all over again. Well okay, i dont know what she'd "think" but you dont want to risk her not being successfull. Minimal depth of laying sand is 12" - I'd go with a little deeper myself

I am going to disagree with this.
In my experience females dig until they have to stop, more than 12 inches of sand means more work for her.
In a natural environment the female would likely choose to dig at the base of a tree or other large plant. Once she hit the roots of the plant she cannot dig anymore and lays her eggs.
Additionally, a bucket full of soft moist sand is not what she would encounter (conditions are too good).
8 to 12 inches is plenty.

If you choose to use the fish tank, be sure to cover the sides, maybe with some black sponge board on the outside. However, I would spend the $2.50 and get a bathroom trash can. I have a beige one and it has been fine for my ladies. They get about 8-10" of digging space and always dig to the bottom before laying.

fair enough. what you say makes sense.
Once I had two females both ready to lay at the same time and so one got the normal big laying bin and the other one with less depth. The one with less depth (it was maybe 8" of sand) dug a tunnel to the bottom twice without laying. I gave her the other, deeper bin, and she dug down deeper and laid. So in my experience 12" is better, but it could have had nothing to do with sand depth - could just be that one crazy female needed a few test runs that time or that she liked dark blue better than dark green for a container.
