Hey everyone! I made a post a few weeks ago about our female veiled https://www.chameleonforums.com/we-trouble-88386/
Today was the first day I handled her since we got her about 5 months ago! We had an appointment at the vets today so there wasn't a choice! We've been worried about the edema and haven't given her any multivitamin or d3 for about six weeks now.
Surprisingly it only took us 15 minutes and a joint effort to get her out of her enclosure. She turned the most beautiful electric green orange and blue we have ever seen, it's a shame she only did it because she was afraid we had set an hour aside to get her organised but as it didn't take long we were able to get her outside for 20 minutes of sun! Which was good because that's the only sun we've seen today.
We got to the vets and she got a good going over! She weighed in at 123 grams, is 30 centimetres nose to tail, 16 centimetres nose to vent and has an impressive waist line at a whopping 14 centimetres!!!! He felt around for eggs but couldn't feel anything egg like while she was relaxed. We may need to back for an ultrasound because she's not been over fed and has actually lost her appetite a bit so we started feeding her 5 bugs every second day rather than 3 a day.
As well as the edema (which has been coming and going) we wanted to get her checked for a respiratory infection as she has made occasional swallowing motions (not at feeding or drinking times) and we heard her wheeze once while hissing. She was having a big shed at the time so it could have been something to do with it but we wanted to be safe. He listened to her heart beat and said it did sound a bit 'noisy for such a small lizard' but he hadn't examined a chameleon for 15 years so he wanted to refer it to the experts in Edinburgh. We have emailed him pictures of the edema when it started and at its worst and sent him a detailed version of the how to ask for help form so hopefully we should hear from the experts in a couple of days. If she does need antibiotics then we will be able to get the right ones and dosage advised by them.
I'm so proud of Teal'c. She did amazingly well and didn't bite anyone! She didn't hiss at us but she did at the vet, mind you he was holding onto her for a long time and prodding at her. She kept swiping at him and crawling up his shirt too. I think he enjoyed seeing her as its not often they get an exotic in there. The girls at reception were gushing at her and asking all sorts of questions which filled in the 15 minute wait for our taxi.
It cost us £23 for the exam and it'll be £10 for the referral to Edinburgh. Unfortunately it was £11 each way for the taxi but Teal'c is worth every penny!
Because I was just so glad to have a hold of her we didn't get any photos so here's some of her full body shed she had about a week ago! She's giving me major stink eye
As always, any feedback is great fully received! Thanks guys for all your previous help
