Tap Water??

Finally got my guy to drink avidly last night using very hot tap water as recomended somewhere here. Before that I was warming the water bottle under hot water but using bottled spring water and I never saw him drink.

I always use bottled water for my herps since I'm an aquarist too, and we avoid tap water due chloromines etc.

Any harm for me using the tap water for the veiled as it is easier to heat??

Thanks.

Also I just stick the sprayer bottle (without the nozzle screwed on) in the microwave for 1 min, then screw on sprayer nozzle, fire 5 test sprays and ready to go!!

To answer your Qs, just let it overnight in open container to let the chlorine evaporate.
Tap water is depend on the quality of your locale's water.
I know my city uses Fluoride in the water
That is why I only drink filtered water; so does my chameleons

Boil it. To have my own fresh water each day I boil a teapot the night before and refrigerate. Just as good as store bought spring water. Ill then micro it to room temp. Usually 30 sec.

Im not saying that i know this for a fact, cause it just occurred to me, but what if heating the sprayer bottle(which is plastic) in the microwave cause the toxic chemicals in plastic to mix in with the water? I heard once that heating certain plastics, and even water bottles left in a car for a long period of time can cause us to be at risk of absorbing toxic chemicals that are in the plastic containers.

maybe this could be happening in your case. You might want to check that out.

Boiling can increase the mineral content (Fluoride is a mineral). While boiling the water evaporates leaving the minerals.

So it depends on whats in your city water.

So what would you suggest? A filter, a qick search of my city water contents turned up dry. All I get are links to plumbing services. Should I get a ph/mineral test for the sink? What's the qiuckest way to figure this out. I know there is chlorine, I can taste it, that's why I chose to boil it in the first place.

Unless there have been problems with your water, I suggest straight from the tap, that's what we do here.
If you are really concerned about it, get a filtration system installed or buy a Britta purifier.

Well, I did search : tap water. The search engine gave me 20 pages on "water" and told me tap was too short a word to be searched.:mad:Then I searched "tap water" in quotes and got zero findings.

So the site either needs a better search engine or I missed the instructions how to avoid this error....

But thank you for the links.

I just use regular tap water for my cham, then add a drop of the Exo Terra Aquatise water conditioner to get rid of any bad stuff. Just add 1 drop per 500ml of water. I live in an area with relatively high chlorine levels though. Is that OK? I've always wondered if it makes his water taste weird. I'm not curious enough to drink it myself though!

Let the water overnight in an open container.
Chlorine evaporates over time.

Oh, is that because there are any bad effects from using a water conditioner? Or is it just a case of it being cheaper?

cheaper and just as effective.
I used reptisafe long time ago and my veiled start snorting salt and calcium.
I found out that they put some additives and calcium into it that it kind of messes with my supplementation regime.

I have a Brita filter hooked up on the kitchen faucet, hot filtered water on tap. I just hate lugging the mister up and down the stairs haha.
