stage one in progress - thoughts ?

This will be Lenny's free range. He is checking it out , not happy the we cut this tree down to hang the uvb above it. Next will be his heat light and then the mist king. Here we are so far.

It looks great so far Laurie. I do have a question for you. From the picture is doesn't look like the UV light is over the tree. Would that just be the picture? He will climb that cord and probably the curtains. He'll also probably check out the room so make sure you get it safe for him. What kind of drainage are you going to use with the Mist King?

I have to agree with JannB on that from personal experience....if there is ANYTHING in reach he will eventually reach for it. In your picture I see you have your window open....I would definitely take that as a concern as he can certainly access it.


Also, how are you going to mist/drain it? I realize you have a wood floor so I guess you can just mop up, but that might damage your floor over time.

EDIT: realized you said mist king, so I guess you couldn't mop it everytime...curious how you are going to drain, I have been working on my own free-range design for a long time now and I am super happy with it but I just can't figure out a drainage system that is satisfactory.

How many chams will you have in there?

looks great so far..the ficus will love the light..its not too much but should still give out quite a bit for that tree (they get nice and full!)..cant wait to see it all done( and yes he will most likley go to explore eventually..)..when mine take a walk..they usually take the same path, and go right back after they have seen what they needed to see..( the path is to the window, then jump off the blinds onto my bed (the "jump" is about 12 inches to soft comforter blanket) then straight to my back while im on the computer..he will in some time "mark" it as his, and hardly leave it..i like, keep it up!!

LOOKS GREAT Laurie. im sure king Lenny will love it. i may just have to bring my guys over to play there LoL..
looks to my that the lights go across the area quite well and im sure the open windows are screened so that just helps let in some natural UVB

Answers to all. First there will be one w/c male quad living there. He is living there because he simply would not adjust to a cage. I started taking him up to that tree and finally gave in and am making it his home.

Jann his tree is under the light, you are correct that it is just the angle. As for him going all over his area and the room - see the pictures in the next post, that I will do in a few minutes of part two. The drainage for the mistking??? If you ask my husband there is no drainage. I have a very large, heavy plastic drop cloth to cover the new wood floor, on top of that will be a very good sized piece of terrycloth fabric to catch the water. That will go to the dryer every night. A really rotten solution but so far the best I have come up with. I WOULD LOVE HELP!! come on ideas guys - please?
