Lucifer, my Jackson's, has developed a pustule on his eye. He may have picked it up when we evacuated to Florida for Ike (it was stressful for all of us!). I noticed that he had trouble targeting crickets and so we were feeding him waxworms with Repti-Aid supplements. The other day, I noticed a...
hardy species
Veileds are surprisingly hardy and strong survivors. A bit of TLC and the right environment should allow her to thrive. Good luck with her, sounds like you may have got her before the worst set in.
A bit better video...
Here is a better (slightly better resolution) video of it.
Frankly, I really want one of these. Anyone know where to order one from?
Nothing has been done yet.
Dylan,
I haven't done anything yet and only plan on one upgrade at present, which is supplying heat to the branch. I did experiment briefly with a Zoo Med "Heat Cable", but I did not like the length (12', far too much for my purpose), the wattage (50 W, again...
Rational arguments
Yes, it is nice to see other than an ad hominem argument.
The speedy tongue is, I presume, an adaptation to accommodate an otherwise slow behavior and also to remove the cham from the immediate site of predation.
What we have here is differences of how husbandry is...
Green Design
Yes, I was referring to the tape that you wrap pipes with that is electrified and heats up to keep pipes from freezing in the winter. This notion has been applied to reptile habitat products.
Cheap isn't the reason at all. My interest is in optimization and efficiency...
Fight? What fight?
I was just trying to start some dialogue, get a feel for the level of sophistication of the local (read forum) cognoscenti, and see who is the most pompous of them all.
Frankly, I accomplished all of my objectives. Fight? I don't think so.
Finally, I like your quote, it...
Yes and no.
The idea behind the branch is that the cham will grasp it with it's belly resting against it, which is where it needs the heat. As for time, who cares? My chams day is filled with a busy schedule of resting-waiting (for food to wander by)-eating-drinking. He is quite happy to...
Reptiles are cold-blooded creatures and this fact is often misunderstood. It does not mean that they have icy-cold blood, but rather that they have no automatic mechanism, e.g. like mammals, to maintain their blood (and hence body) temperature. As such, when cold they need to move to warm areas...
Thanks, a sincere response...
I have avoided a basking light for two reasons: 1) Chams are a bit different from "heat lizards" (for lack of a better term) in that they tend not to need the same amount of warmth and 2) great fear of burns and/or fire.
It sounds like you have a good setup...
I did not ask for advice.
I did not ask for advice. Please learn to read a post as it is written. To help you out, I asked:
Is anyone using heat tape?
If you are using tape, what brand?
What part of those questions did you mistake for someone asking for advice. I am always bemused by...
