Why do chams eat soil ??

I know how many members this forum has, checked it before, but 25 threads in 21,864 is still more than 0 on the 2 smaller dutch forums. but still, it doesn't explain why they do it... And now when did I claim this is normal ? I had never even heard of it before...

Why do chams eat soil ??

In all the threads I've read it says: NO SUBSTRATE & USE SCREEN CAGES, and there are quite a lot of threads saying that chams eat soil, that's where I got my conclusion I guess. Now where did you get that from? I never said they feed their chams soil  I just meant that a lot of people...

Why do chams eat soil ??

I use tap water for my pardalis, there is cocopeat on the bottom of the cage and he doesn't eat it. Calyptratus, same story: tap water, cocopeat and didn't eat it. Maybe this is a stupid suggestion, but over here, we all use glass cages and substrate. We very rarely see them eat soil. In...

I just took the glass windows out so the flash wouldn't reflect in it. Nothing kept him from escaping, but he probably didn't even realise the door was open. When I clean his cage or feed him, and he realises the door is open, he always looks for a way out by trying to climb up the glass...

Why do chams eat soil ??

Forget the polled numbers, and black hair has not nothing to do with why chameleons eat soil. I know that a lot of people in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and other EU countries use substrate. I've heard a few say that they've seen it happen once or twice, but it's not that common. And...

Why do chams eat soil ??

Sorry. anyways, we might have a much smaller forum, but almost everyone uses substrate and very few of them eat substrate. You have a big forum, but only a handfull have used substrate and seen them eat it. If everyone were to use it and see for themselves, you might come to a...

Guess somebody doesn't like fake plants that much :p He often sleeps on or in those fake plants, so I'll let them hang there, and I do like how they look :D

Why do chams eat soil ??

It's ZOOMED's eco earth cocopeat, I come across it very often in other people's terrariums, it's often used for spiders, scorpions,... and it can be used for reptiles such as chameleons as well. @ reyesjoshuacruz you speak of 1 in 20 chameleons that does it, that means that on...

There are some bugs in the substrate, some springtails as well, but I clean up all/most of the plant material and feces myself and replace the soil once in a while. What's the problem with the UVB in the cage? And I know somebody with a 6 month old pardalis of 140grams, but also some with...

Thanks a lot guys. I just put the plants in the soil (cocopeat), no pot, notice the roots of the plants against the glass on the 3rd picture ;) My cham is about 7 months old now, he's 30cm and 60grams. Hope he'll take after his dad soon:
