At a loss for what is wrong

Update after the vet! Apparently on the car ride there, Julian was able to make a bowel movement on his own! Proud of him. I believe it is because the one highway we took is currently under construction and quite bumpy. The vet mentioned that needing to grip onto the dowels in his travel box and...

At a loss for what is wrong

Haha! And interesting! I know I have heard that many beardies will poop not long after being in their bathes, if only chameleons were that easy!

At a loss for what is wrong

Haha! Okay yes exercise in that sense does make more sense. Vet just had mentioned about getting him "out and about" more because he seems to be more sedentary than the average chameleon. I will be heading to the vet this evening. Will post any other updates that come from the visit.

At a loss for what is wrong

Yes I do believe this would be what he does, but will clarify when I speak with him. He suggested that Julian's abdominal muscles could be weak from lack of exercise and this could be causing him to not be able to poop. If this is something that I need to do for him to have a better quality of...

At a loss for what is wrong

How the vet is able to get him to make bowel movements during visits? I have not seen him do it as my vet isn't allowing me inside the office due to covid, but he has explained to me that it is a procedure he does for many animals that causes the colon, or in this case i guess the cloaca, to...

At a loss for what is wrong

I have not updated this thread since Julian's vet visit as I was concerned there would be some skepticism toward my exotic vet's latest advice, but I trust his advice so I will share with anyone reading this thread. My vet suggested that Julian could possibly be depressed from the winter months...

At a loss for what is wrong

Yes this sounds exactly how it has been for me with Julian. When I rescued him I know that he would have some "quirks" to put it simply, possible MBD, initial dehydration, etc. It's hard looking back at pictures before this major decline because he seemed so happy, like a completely different...

At a loss for what is wrong

Yes correct, still using the calcium plus two times a month. In terms of a blood draw, I know my vet had mentioned in January about doing another in a few months to confirm that levels have not changed. I will take a look at the thread you linked later on today, thank you for providing it...

At a loss for what is wrong

To anyone who was following my post, I figured I would update on Julian. I have not seen any improvement in terms of his energy and health. After switching from what the vet recommended (Repashy calcium LodD) to the correct daily calcium supplement (Repashy calcium No D3), his eyes began to seem...

At a loss for what is wrong

Okay thanks! When we had the test run back in January he had gone into a lot of detail about it all, but he gave me so much information that it was hard to retain it all. I do know one of the things he mentioned was that it was "fantastic" compared to other bloodwork he had seen and bloodwork...

At a loss for what is wrong

Ah okay, thank you for the sources. This is nice to hear! When I had first adopted my veiled I accidentally bought a T8 bulb and maybe that is why the 6 months has been engrained in my mind. Thankfully I realized my mistake quickly and replaced it with a T5.

Thanks for the reply! Yes I have ReptiSun bulbs and read in multiple places that it is safer to replace every 6 months, would rather be safe than sorry! As for the blood test, I personally don't know how to interpret what is shown so any advice on the data is much appreciated!

At a loss for what is wrong

Thanks for the reply. Yes I agree. I cannot remember what else led my vet to the conclusion of a vitamin A deficiency as that diagnosis was made in July of last year, and I had only had Julian in my care for about a month at the time. I believe one of the other reasons is because he had not been...

At a loss for what is wrong

Thanks for the input! The darkness in the picture may be because of the way I took the picture because there are 2 other windows in the room he is in. A grow light is something I have been wanting to invest in for the future live plants though, are they any brands or products you recommend? I...

At a loss for what is wrong

Okay I will move his branches today. There is no plastic piece covering the UVB bulb thankfully. I will continue to encourage drinking and will be giving him a hornworm today. The weather is starting to warm up where I am so hopefully I will get him outside soon. I will definitely keep you...

At a loss for what is wrong

Thank you so much for replying @Beman . To answer your questions: The bulb is a 5.0 UVB and was replaced a month ago, I replace every 6 months because I do not own a solarmeter. His branches are about 6 inches away from the bulbs. Would around 8 inches be better? As for the supplementation...

At a loss for what is wrong

I am at a loss with what to do with my panther chameleon Julian. I have taken him to 3 different exotic vets, the most recent being highly recommended by many people. His fecals were negative for parasites, his bloodwork came back fantastic according to the vet, no obvious signs of kidney issues...
