Am cleaning up my dubia colony, to transfer them to a new container and dump the built up frass - and found warehouse beetles in the enclosure. Didn't spot them until I started moving stuff around. There's quite a few, I'm unable to separate them.
People put buffalo beetles in their dubia...
I agree that more plants is better, does beg the question of ‘what’s a sufficient amount to make this animal feel at home’.
It’s looking pretty sprightly in there!
At the moment, Theres DENSE cover to 12”. Tallest plant at 20”.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. Will be primarily letting these ones...
What are the water options besides crystals?
Can you just silicone sand to a dish and/or invert a water vessel like how chicken waterers do it? That way it’s a very shallow layer and textured to allow climbing out.
Or is water even needed beyond what’s in veggies?
Just hoping to make folks aware—you can use any timer to run the Mistking. Heck, you can use a programmable smart outlet.
Maybe that wasn’t the question. And yes, the kit includes a timer, but since it turns on when you plug it in, anything that turns an outlet on/off will suffice.
So if...
As a noob—I’m glad for those folks who pass on their experience. It’s just that until you have all the supplies set up, you don’t know how it all works.
Anybody know of a dual 18" fluorescent tube reflector? In the grow-light world there seem to be lots of T5 options and they're all 22" bulbs. For my purposes T8 is preferable as the bulbs are cheaper. Plus I'm not aware of an 18" T5 UVB--and this would be for a daylight and uv combo. Thx!
It’s fiberglass—go to Home Depot website and search for “charcoal windowscreen”.
As to the other poster saying pine odors kill—I’ll take that risk. It’s just wood. Stained and urethane’d. A 1x2 furring strip is 0.98 for 8’, and “whitewood”, whatever that is, is $4.40. I may have dipped into a...
It’s just a positive displacement pump so yeah runs dry. Doesn’t reprime though...but if the question is “what happens to this thing when it’s pumping air”...the answer is nothing. There’s no friction or heat issues.
I just installed mine and test ran it dry for 5 min, no worries, no noises or...
Happy to answer questions. This is about $10 of wood, $5 of misc fasteners, $15 of window screen and spline, and a $5 tub I got for free. False bottom is 10% of $15 of supplies (so I hope I make more!), and 10% of $30 of bedding mix materials (will be bio active soon).
Stressing over the design...
Built a cage out of 1x2 lumber from the home store.
Hardest part was figuring out how to make the corners. Basically all half lap joints.
I ripped thinner boards to form a door - open mortis joints in three thicknesses because that was easy to tablesaw.
Then, before I assembled and stained...
