    Silk worm cocoons!!?

A lot can happen in 2 days. To my surprise there are a few cocoons in each of my 2 main bins and my breeder colony appears to be starting and have lines down their dorsum! How long do I need to wait before I collect the cocoons and move them into a clean bin for hatching and breeding? Also, what...

    Way too many silk worms!!!

Also, sorry I am not a real chameleon keeper. I find your site to be very nice and active and feeders are feeders. I used to chameleon-sit for a friend and hope one day to have a chameleon of my own, until then it's just my toads.

    Way too many silk worms!!!

Awesome. Thanks for the information! I think my largest ones are probably less than a week away from being ready to cocoon. Seems like I will have plenty of eggs to last me before needing to breed them again!

    Way too many silk worms!!!

No I don't think they are that big. Is that about how big they get prior to cocooning!? Thus far I have really enjoyed raising them and think it will be even easier with fewer hatching eggs in the future. My toads like them and they seem to get fuller faster compared to eating the earth worms...

    Way too many silk worms!!!

Thanks for the reply. That is good to know that I don't have to feed them every day. I have 1 1/2 pound bag of powder chow left and am thinking that I might have to just feed my breeders as bad as that sounds and how terrible I feel about that. I don't have any mull berry trees near me that I...

    Way too many silk worms!!!

I am trying my hand at keeping a silk worm colony going. From everything I read I anticipated a lot of failure and so I started with 500 eggs. Well, I was a little too successful and 1) I waited too long to start feeding them thinking I wouldn't have enough for a breeding colony and 2) my toads...

    silkie babies

One week and my silk worm eggs have hatched! They are feeding well on mullberry chow. My plan is to keep them in the incubator until they outgrow it which won't be long and then move them into permanent homes with gutter gard in a cabinet. I have read and I think someone here told me they would...

    Silkworm eggs?

Thanks. I ordered them from Mullberry farms along with some food. I found some good information here, as well as other places too. I plan to keep them in the low 80's during hatching and until they get a little bigger before moving them to the room temp housing. Good luck!!!

    Silkworm eggs?

Thanks. It had been like real cold (in the teens) but is going to be in the 30's and 40's so ordered the eggs. Have my incubator coming soon too. Can't wait to start a colony!!

    Silkworm eggs?

Yes that helps. I had to type plastic into the search instead of rubber!

    Silkworm eggs?

Is the stainless steel fine to use? That's all I can find, but it seems like most people use rubber material gutter guard.

    Silkworm eggs?

Another question: I am looking for the gutter guard for the worm enclosures and can only find stainless steel. Where do I find the rubber kind?

    Silkworm eggs?

Hey, Just wanted to see what the best place to buy silk worm eggs from is in regards to cost as well as quality. I was looking at Mullberry farms. For eggs and food and the shipping its close to 60 dollars which I thought is a little steep - 30 bucks for shipping on eggs???

    Isopods, Springtails, and earthworms!

I have a couple toads that I have had for 6 years predominantly on an earth worm and red wiggler worm diet and have never had an issue with parasites. I think it is important where you get your worms from though. When my colonies get low I always order from Uncle Jim's Worm Farm. They have a...

    Starting a silkworm colony:

What is the ideal humidity for eggs and the very young? The incubator I am looking to get has a humidity setting, as well.

    Starting a silkworm colony:

Hi everyone, I am planning to start a silkworm breeding colony. My plan is to have two small sterilite containers for the larvae stage as I grow them and then a third sterilite container for the pupating adults and then breeding moths. I am going to keep all these containers in one larger...
