    Newbie's advise

Soundin' good Alex, Sounds like you did some research and are off to a good start. I would suggest one thing though ... NO wild caught prey. Even though it may be pesticide free, there is a high chance of parasites. You don't want that! :) Can't wait to see some pics! I don't know if...

Look at me (Shelby) now !!!

Mr. Green Mr. Green, Yes! It is bamboo. I love it. As Lady Cham said, it's kinda tricky to get stationary. Also, has to be small enough for your age/size cham to grip...as it's a smooth surface and slippery. I have taken small screws and screwed it into my metal frame. :) Shelby LOVES...

    Night crawlers?

Welcome! Hey Lady, You should be ok. I have heard of some chains doing the same things, to extend the life of their live prey, but I have never personally had a problem with pet store prey. I personally order silkworms from Nick and Joe (www.silkwormfarm.com) ... they are the best prey...

    Night crawlers?

Wouldn't feed them myself ... IMO, you can feed night crawlers or earth worms, but just keep this in mind: 1) They can carry very high amounts of parasites. (But generally speaking, live does can ... ex. crickets carry low levels of coccidian. Pinkies carry various parasites. etc etc)...

Look at me (Shelby) now !!!

Here she is! She's now showering. LOVES it. I dunno why, I have heard most stress when showered, but she actually gets lighter then ever and climbs as fast as she can to the highest point when the water is turned on, and sits in the open. She could hide in tons of places, but she sits in the...

This is my 5 1/2 month old female, veiled chameleon named Shelby! She LOVES her silk worms. Here she is eating from my hand.

    Dexter's in trouble?

I would suggest silkworms. I got a female veiled from a pet shop 6 weeks ago today and she was half starved. She was only 2 inches and 21 grams when I brought her home ... she is now up to 55 grams and is 7 inches long!!! (See threads posted by myself for pics and story.) MBD is a very...

Update on Shelby! (From Olive Oil to Zena!)

Confused! Chamfreak, I am lost and confused? What are you referring to ... "partly, but it's been two weeks?" I own one cham. My female you have read about. She has never been with a male. Also, on my other post, you posted a comment about Shelby looking a lil dehydrated and what not...

    Crickets or silkworms?

I order the live. I order on Fridays from www.silkwormfarm.com and get free shipping and handling. :-) I LOVE it. 200 worms for 18 bucks! (Chow is more, of course, but I buy the powder chow in bulk then I don't have to pay for shipping and it lasts in the powder form for a year!)

    Crickets or silkworms?

www.chameleonnews.com/year2002/sept2002/nutrition/nutrition_sept_02.html That says it all. I am a newbie still (in regards the chams) but from what I have read, heard and seen ... silkies are just as good, if not better, then crickets. As for hunting ... I simply place the silkworms in...

Update on Shelby! (From Olive Oil to Zena!)

ChamFreak - I think I know why you said, " ... it may be too late." I reread your post, and I read all mine. I think you read the part about me having my female and one of my male leos together. I was considering breeding the leos. ;) Not Shelby, my cham. NEVER at this age, and most likely...

Update on Shelby! (From Olive Oil to Zena!)

Thanks for the feedback. I don't plan to breed her ... not for a long time anyways, if ever. She is only about 5 months old, at most, so I am not even thinking about that yet! All I want is to get her healthy as a horse and make her happy. I am not into the breeding aspect of reptiles. I...

Update on Shelby! (From Olive Oil to Zena!)

Shelby, Shelby, Shelby Hey Mr. Green, Thanks! It's been a long 4 1/2 weeks, but WELL worth it! ;) I am not currently showering her. I was told she is still too young, and since she is doing fine at the moment, I don't want to add extra stress to her. Should I be ... could I be...

Update on Shelby! (From Olive Oil to Zena!)

Original weight! Brad, She was 24 grams when I brought her home, she now weighs 31!!! WHOO HOO She didn't double in size, but gaining a third of her body weight in 4 weeks is plenty good for me! I have been told, read a lot and heard that it isn't good to get them too big, too fast ...

Update on Shelby! (From Olive Oil to Zena!)

Here she is!!! She's gained 7 grams, grown 2 inches longer and filled out so much already! This is only 4 weeks and 2 days later ... FROM (I can't upload her before pics, as they are already in a thread on here titled "First timer ... ", please check out that thread to compare) this to...
