    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

Update: We're a little over halfway through the round of antibiotics and a little over a week after his first dose of Vit A. He's so well-behaved when I give him his medicine; sometimes it's hard to get him to open his mouth for it! :) I've been keeping the ambient temp at around 80 at the...

    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

For anyone wondering: We had a vet appointment at 1 today. Mawtyplant was very right! Though I was wrong about the RI, the vet called the deficiency. Simple fix; he was prescribed oral antibiotics for a minor infection in his gums (most likely what I mistook for the RI) and I picked up some Vit...

Would a bird cage be a viable option for housing a chameleon?

I thought of that, but I figure it would be solved by a cricket cup, or a separate feeding enclosure, which I've heard of some people using anyway.

Would a bird cage be a viable option for housing a chameleon?

First, I'm not necessarily considering this, but I was hunting for reptile enclosures on craigslist (just looked up "cage") and kept scrolling past so many bird cages. I imagine the bars would be close enough that an adult chameleon wouldn't escape. Does it come down to humidity? Is there a...

    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

Whoa! Lowest ambient on some NIGHTS is 65, usually 70. Sorry about that, it wouldn't let me edit. I also leave the basking light on at night so he has the option of a warmer sleeping area/gradient.

    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

I'll definitely be taking him to the vet (calling tomorrow when they're open). I haven't noticed any other symptoms associated with a Vitamin A deficiency. The eye issues have been around much longer than the RI and he's been otherwise very healthy until about a week ago. My vet doesn't seem to...

    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

I posted the form you mentioned (hope it helps!). I've never noticed his actual eye(s) swelling but he had what looked to be a bump on his left eye that appeared when he squinched (cleaned) it, which was when I took him to the vet the first time (very scary!). He just seemed to be having some...

    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

Chameleon Info: Your Chameleon - Male panther chameleon, about 3.5 years. I've had him for about 2.5-3 years. Handling - Only occasional, mostly in summer so he can sit by the window. Feeding - His diet is mostly mealworms, an occasional superworm, and I used to pick up a dozen crickets for him...

    Can RIs Cause Eye Problems?

I have a male panther chameleon who's about 3.5 years old and over the last few months he's been acting like he has depth issues with his sight. I took him to the vet who prescribed him eye drops for a week for a supposed eye infection/poked eye. It seemed to help a bit but after the week he...

    Commercial filters for purified water?

Would a regular water-filter bottle purify water well enough for use in a fogger or do I need to buy water that's already mineral-free? Thanks!

Best Material for Solid Cage Walls?

I have a 3 year old male panther chameleon who currently lives in a 24x24x48 screen cage with the lights sitting on top. I'm planning on building him a semi solid-walled vivarium to help maintain more moisture. I've heard that glass terrariums aren't always the best because the cham may see...

    Concerned about this chameleon

This is an old thread, but I'll post this anyway. From the pictures, I'm fairly certain this is the chameleon of a musician I know, Robin. Unfortunately, Casper passed away from cancer somewhat recently, and the cancer is what caused the eye crust. This chameleon was incredibly well taken...

I Don't Think My Cham Can See Well :(

Whew, that's a lot of info :)! I'll look into all that and make adjustments where they're needed. Also, don't worry, his habitat is away from windows and that pic was taken in mid-summer :).

I Don't Think My Cham Can See Well :(

No; I was waiting to see if it would worsen or otherwise change. I plan to, though, if it ever returns.

I Don't Think My Cham Can See Well :(

This isn't super recent, but it's a clear photo and he looks the same. I'll post a newer pic tomorrow.

I Don't Think My Cham Can See Well :(

I can't see how to edit my original post again so I'm putting this here. Chameleon Info: Your Chameleon - Male Panther, about 2 years old, has been in my care for a little over a year. Handling - He's handled at least every few days, either by me or my sister. Feeding - Mostly super-worms every...

I Don't Think My Cham Can See Well :(

Hi! Thanks for the input. Aside from the vitamin supplement, I also have a calcium powder with D3 that I dust on most of his food servings. I also have a UV light above his cage which I can give more info on if needed. Any advice in that category would also be much appreciated. :)

I Don't Think My Cham Can See Well :(

I have a sweet Panther Chameleon who is about 2 years old. I got him when he was a little under a year old. For a while he was eating normally. He was hitting his mark every time, even at distances, but now he gets very close to his food before striking, is slow and cautious, and he still misses...
