The short answer is no, I don't have to take him with me. However, the only pet sitter option has no experiment with chams and I would much rather take him win me so I know he's getting the proper care. I'll be gone for a week and would know he's getting the correct care if with me.

As JamesBryan said, raise the dripper. One thing I've used in the past is a styrofoam cup. If you cut the bottom out and place the dripper on top of it, its pretty light and wont add too much weight to your screen if your dripper is sitting directly on top of the screen.
i also have a baby veiled which i am trying to figure out the appropriate setup. im using a 75w bulb and ive layered the vines at varying levels to see where he chooses to bask most often. after a couple days, ill adjust the vines according to where he appears to be most comfortable.
