    Panther shedding bath

Willie was an odd chameleon. He preferred to be with the walking tree (me) than on his cage or other planted trees. I guess I had a better view of the room or something.

    Panther shedding bath

I actually did think his statement was harsh. I used a word "playing" to describe what it looked like. Obviously it's a reptile with a reptilian brain so it didn't go "Weeeeee, weeeeeee" as it splashed around and played Marco Polo in the sink. I had to think about how I wanted to proceed...

    Panther shedding bath

Okay understood but can you explain why it is he would always just crawl over to the sink when I was doing dishes and "act" like he was playing in it by sticking his hands in it. This happened more than once. I just assumed it was pleasurable for him in some way. I never put him in water. He...

    Panther shedding bath

They like playing in water, though. At least mine did. Put him near a faucet or spray hose and it was like watching a little kid play. I read this stuff and wondered how mine lived to 6 years with everything I did wrong with him.

I should have done this before

Well we had 6 years together which I found out was pretty long for a veil. I have the set up for a veiled or panther since they both are similar in size, but I'm drawn to the dwarfs because they're "cute". It's hard to compete with a panther on color, though.

I should have done this before

I've been lurking and reading for a long time now but I never know what to see for introductions. I've silently learned a lot from everyone who posts on here. I had a long, long living veil named Willie who wasn't nasty, was very much the opposite of what everyone has said I should expect...

    What got you into chams?

Steve Irwin and the Parson's chameleon he was loving up made me want one. I quickly realized how rare and EXPENSIVE they were so I set my sights on something lower. I went to Petco and got my first chameleon without knowing anything about them really. I built him his own cage out of...

    which Trioceros is best??

The Deremensis look the most like baby dinosaurs. I've wanted to build an enclosure with a fake volcano and a T-Rex back display but not sure if that would scare the bejeebers out of one.

    From crickets to roaches advice?

So he does eat the dubias? I don't like crickets, is why I'm asking. They bite and they're just nasty.

    From crickets to roaches advice?

Okay I have to ask...is every SURE the chameleon won't starve and he will finally eat the roach?

    Minor chameleons

I don't believe that is what I stated at all. It is not mutually exclusive. I can like both chocolate and vanilla ice cream or dislike both. You can want to save creatures in the wild and also understand that by having them in hobby and zoo environments you are likewise helping to do the...

    Minor chameleons

Most people are frightened of reptiles and don't really care about them. Think what you will, but Steve Irwin did more with his program to get people to care about crocodiles and reptiles than any boring wildlife program. I didn't particularly care about them until I began to visit a friend...

    Minor chameleons

They aren't collecting while deforestation is going on. They are breeding in captivity from what I've read. However, my point is that we are speaking of the reality of developing nations. They will continue to deforest regardless of what wildlife is there. The few hobby collectors buying...

    Minor chameleons

Ivory requires the death of the elephant. A better example would be people who were taking lion cubs and raising them. Either way, the chameleon's aren't near extinct due to the hobby trade. Their habitat is being deforested which means when the trees are gone, so are they. If that is...

    Minor chameleons

I hesitate to raise this heated discussion/debate once more but I did have a point to make regarding the morality of bringing in a species on the protected list as a hobby. If, as was the case for rhinos, the animal's place on the endangered species list was due to poaching specifically for...

Do Chameleons have the ability to show affection to their owners?

Technically no predator should show affection to prey animals yet we love horses, cats (my favorite predator) have bonded with birds, guinea pigs, or ducks. I'm not saying reptiles "love" or "like" their owners, but "comfortable with" is a type of relationship that shouldn't be dismissed...
