I'm sorry. I blanked super hard on this for some reason. I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, here's a pic. My bad for the brain cramps.
Edit: this was taken today, May 18. It looks basically identical to what I described previously.
Hello all. Rinoa is a female veiled chameleon, approx 2.5 years old. Just today I noticed a small lump that I had not seen previously. It's oval shaped, about a quarter inch long, and an eighth of an inch wide. It proceeds about maybe an eighth of an inch from her skin line; likely less, but I'm...
Yes she did. Everything about the process seemed fine. She dug way down to the bottom of the container, laid her eggs in a neat little cluster, and filled it all back in. She even seemed to be moving around earlier in the day; I did have work so I couldn't monitor very closely, unfortunately. It...
My little girl Rinoa just laid her first clutch of eggs last night. I'm sure it's taxing to dig 3x your body length and then squeeze out 33 eggs, but how tired should she be? I thought she'd be famished, so I put some extra heavily calcium dusted crickets in there and she could not be less...
I know that proper humidity levels are very important, but I'm not exactly sure why. What are the effects on cham health when humidity is too high or low?
The bin is about 11.5" deep and around 10" in diameter. I thought she looked thinner one day but that was a couple weeks ago. Would she possibly lay that quickly? In know it's not an exact science with the growth of eggs and receptivity and all that. Should I check for eggs? Like I said, I don't...
My girl Rinoa is about a year old now; I got her as a young girl for Christmas last year. She's been doing well, and some weeks ago she put on her big girl colors: the turquoises and mustard yellows of a receptive female. Then she got a bit darker for a while. She looked a little round around...
Yeah Iv'e fed with phoenix worms before, but they're so small I could offer a heap of them at once. These things are so big I just couldn't choose a portion. I guess one or two at a time would be good. I think my regular pet store only offers full size worms; I'll check out other stores near me...
I usually feed my girl large crickets, but on a whim last time at the petstore I bought a little tub of 25 superworms. I was wondering how to best feed her these gigantic worms. She's almost a year old veiled, and she eats very well. I mean, these worms are huge. I find myself wondering how any...
If you don't mind hatching and growing your own mantises, I bought an ooth from Nick Barta in the classifieds. They hatched out just fine, had plenty on hand. Just make sure you don't follow in my footsteps and forget to feed them or you'll have a little tub full of dead mantids (not good).
Cool, thanks for the quick reply. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't stressing her out or anything just by misting the cage. Good to know. Thanks again.
So I hand mist my girl Rinoa a couple times everyday. I try not to spray her directly, and most of the time she runs like a bat out of hell from the water, but sometimes she basks in the water droplets and just soaks them in like a kid playing in a sprinkler. Is there a "normal" reaction that...
So I just came across this post on the /r/chameleons subreddit. The poster is a mod that claims (s)he's used drinking glasses as a water source for their chams for about a decade. Has anyone here used still water successfully? I (being an admittedly novice keeper) have always read that they...
So I've got some small fly looking dudes creeping around my enclosure. They hang around the lights and seem to be reproducing. Is this something that I should be worried about? They don't seem to be doing any damage to anything, they're just annoying to me. They're also much too small to be...
Sounds like a plan to me. I'll keep an eye on her for when she's on the move and try to intercept her. I'm prepared to put time into this. Thanks for the help everyone.
She's approx 6-7 mos old. I've had her since Christmas 2014. I've only been trying to handle her more recently, like the last few days or so. I'm not expecting her to take to me immediately, but it's kind of strange because she lets me get close and under her, but as soon as I try to lift up to...
I want to begin holding my veiled girl more so that she isn't so afraid of me, but she's really scared of my hand. I recently watched the videos from screameleons (sorry I can't find the link) about proper and improper handling techniques; i.e. don't come from behind, start slowly from...
Thanks for the help, jannb. While I should be cutting back, is it better to feed her less each day, or the same amount less often? Or is it just most important to meet the quota of 8/12 crickets every 2-3 days, such as in the blog you posted to me the other day? I have the pothos in an open pot...
