The black thing at the front is the power supply for the strip bulb (if thats what you were looking at), it does look a little like a coild from the picutre angle though
When you say poor qaulity light / lack of light, do you mean for the plants only?
I was hoping the light setup was OK for our Cham? Plants can be replaced, the Cham cant...
So after following some advice after posting our first attempt at an enclosure, here is mk2.
We spent a lot of time setting this up, making sure she has enough walkways and enough gradient so she can thermoregulate easily. She loves her Ficus tree, as you can see in the first picture :)...
I think its hard to gauge their mood, we are still trying to accurately detect Athena's moods as it seems colouring doesn't always reflect her mood.
Sometimes when i first enter the room she hides in her Ficus tree, yet still displays a nice lime green colouring.
One thing is certain...
Hello All,
We are having some issues keeping some of our feeders alive. As far as i am aware we are doing everything correct, however we must have missed something else we wouldn't be having a problem :p
Athena eats a variety of Locust, Silkworms, Butterworms, Calciworms, Waxworms (treat...
From my very limited experience I would suspect he is stressed in the last pic. At least, those are the markings my Vield makes when she is throwing a tantrum (usually during misting)
We have increased the length of her misting sessions, she gets around 2-3minutes of constant misting 2-3 times a day, we had to created a drainage system as it leaves a lot of excess water. She also has a 1 gallon dripper dripping slowly for around 4-5hrs a day.
The reason im concerned about...
Hello All,
Last weekend we completely overhauled our enclosure for our 4 month female as the humidity wasnt right (20%RH).
We have since loaded the enclosure with live plants, 2 small hibiscus, 2 small bromeliads, and a large 4ft fiscus tree which takes up most of the right hand side of...
My humidity meter came through yesterday, and just aswell as it is currently reading at 20% RH at the top of the cage.
I have bough a large Ficus (wheeping fig) to go in the enclosure tonight, and im also going to cover the outside of the back cage in plastic sheeting to try and raise the...
I think the handheld digital is giving a false high reading. The grey/black casing surrounding the sensor is absorbing a lot of heat and that is skewing the results.
Ive bought a different brand probe, and also a temp gun as im super paranoid about getting the temp correct.
If i use the...
Im in the UK. Extention wheel probably wasnt the best description :)

Hello All,
Im raising our enclosure this weekend off the floor to make way for a proper drainage system. The problem i think i am going to run into is getting the lights back on top of the cage.
Once raised, the top of the cage will be just over 6ft tall but both UVB and Basking lamps...
The temp at his basking spot is anywhere between 95F and 82F depending on which temp gague i am using. I will get a analog 3rd thermometer as a tie breaker.
I have a 100W basking light right now, but also have a 75W and a 25W i can switch too. What is usually recommended for use with a...
Hello All,
I am having some problems getting an accurate reading for my basking spot. I originally bought a digital Exo Terra temp gauge, but today i also bought a more expensive humidity/temp meter...
There is a lot of empty space at the moment, but we couldnt branches that would reach to the top.
We are getting some dowel which we will attach with thumb tacks to create some extra walkways along the top.
Whats the best way to gets live plants that high?
