Correct. I misposted. Calcium daily, with d and only a couple of time a week, and a monthly. No natural sun, UVB and plant grow light for the live plants.
Thanks, actually I have a vet and am recieving care. I just wanted to share what the blood work indicated and the medical protocol so far, as I have seen others with similar issues on the forum, but never saw the thread followed up.
(There is no substrate. 4'x2' reptrebreeze, UVB, basking...
I have seen a few threads on this but without updates, so I wanted to share my experience in hopes that it can help others.
2 + year old rescued veiled male started falling from his perches onto the floor of his habitat, ultimately unable to grip at all and remaining on the floor.
I moved...
I have used many different incubators for hatching chicken eggs (which I realize is quite different, but the problems/issues remain the same - stable temp, humidity, etc).
I have tried hovabators, still-air vs not, Little Giants, you name it.
I have found the best incubators by far are...
I am no expert, but I do not offer earthworms, even for my chickens. I fear the parasites that the worms carry would then introduce the parasites to my chickens. That is the same reason I don't offer them to my chameleons. Hope that helps.
I lived in Kenya for a few years...found a little chameleon in the bushes and brought him into the classroom on my finger - cleared out the classroom. CLEARED OUT. Very interesting lore around all things lizard in that area.
When my veiled was giving my panther the stink eye (from clear across the room - honestly, I didn't realize that even with 10' between cages there would be an issue) I used strategically placed white paper. I didn't need to cover the entire side of the cage, just the resting areas most commonly...
I have the Monsoon, UVB light and Grow Lite plugged into a power strip plugged that is plugged into a timer; I have the basking ceramic bulb plugged directly into the wall so that it is on 24/7. That has worked well.
Beware, my first Monsoon did mis-fire and ran non-stop until it emptied...
for my pygs I also have a small boston fern and button fern (in pots, with substrate built up to near pot lip) - they provide great foliage close to the ground as well. I have 6 pygs in a 40 gal long tank and I rarely can find more than one at once :)
I use a 40 w ceramic heating bulb (on 24/7) and during the day add a 60 household bulb - since adding the light (in addition to the UVB 5.0) both my veiled and panthers seem much happier - good color, activity, etc.
My panther really enjoys warm water mistings from a bottle. In addition to the automated misting system I have set up, every evening I fill the hand mister and give him a long shower. Now, he sees me coming with the bottle and "assumes the position". It is pretty funny.
I considered breeding silkworms, and frankly, after trying my hand at hatching eggs and raising them I realized that for my needs it is easier to buy the adult worms. The feed IS expensive, and I found for the limited number worms I could actually grow to a reasonable size it wasn't worth it...
I could be wrong but I think they the trays for the smaller size cages as well. Be sure to scroll down and check sizes - they are broken out by size and color, which is confusing at first glance.
@tartammy - I bought a tray from LLLReptile that fits below the cage and catches water. I have never had to lift the cage to empty it - it evaporates within reasonable time. It even held up when I had my Monsoon misfire and run until the reservoir was empty.
