I know this post has been quiet for a while but wanted to ask a question.
Do you ever have problems with them wanting to climb down the tree and make a break for it? I got my guy a fake ficus and all he seems to wanna do is head to the floor and run! Makes me very nervous.
So I have been using crickets as my staple for the last 3 months with no problem. He was eating 20-25 a day. Last week I gave him some superworms and now he turns his head up at anything else.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Will he eventually go back to eating crickets?
I got Rupert, my high translucent veiled chameleon, back in March.
He wasn't even the size of my pointer finger back then!
I think he is coming along pretty nicely.
When they are new to their homes and environment they tend to not eat much. Just keep an eye on him and he should be eating plenty soon.
My little guy only ate 3 or 4 a day for the first week or so. Now he eats about 20 a day.
I agree with you on free range feeding. My chameleon...
I put my crickets in a 1 cup sized tupperware container. I then put the cup against the screen near the top of the cage so that they crawl onto it. When you do it up near the top they tend to stay up top. I would say with that method that I only lose 1 out of 10 crickets to the bottom of...
Thanks for the replies! I am going to try the fake plant thing in front of his cage.
Do you just take that plant outside once he is on it to get the sun?
Dez is right. Ditch the red night light. You need to get a basking heat lamp. His basking spot should be around 85 - 90 degrees and as long as your house doesnt drop below 60 at night, you can turn off all the heat at night. Also, you need a UVB lamp so he can get his "sunlight" while in the...
So I want to take my chameleon, Rupert, outside to get some sun today and I have two questions.
1) Should I take the entire enclosure outside or remove him from cage and plop him in a plant?
2) If its very sunny out but only 65 degrees, is that too cold or will direct sunlight warm him...
Hello,
I am looking to buy crickets and silkworms from the same supplier and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Was using Mulberry Farms but they aren't selling crickets right now. I'm on the east coast.
Thanks.
Its going to be 75 degrees and really sunny where I am today. Will that be warm enough to take my chameleon out in the sun for an hour or two or will he be chilly?
Thanks.
I just got an order of 500 1/2 inch crickets and realize now that its way too many... Anyone in the Northern NJ area want some free crickets? I would be happy to part with at least 200.
I have had my cham for a little over a week now and got him to snatch a hornworm out of my hand! What a cool feeling to know he trusts you (or is starving lol) to grab it right from between your fingers!
Just wanted to share my excitement with you!
