Any Specific Locale Reports on Maui?

We're heading to Maui later this week and love looking for Chameleons. I know on Oahu they're pretty easy to find at Manoa Falls arboretum. Are there similar pockets for finding them on Maui?

    Rolly Pollies?

Yes, that's my point. THe only non-aquatic isopod is the rolly polly. Just amazing how similar some of the aquatic ones look to the land versions. Just much bigger!

    Rolly Pollies?

Glad to see the all the correct information about rolly pollies here. I'm from WA state and grew up calling them that as well. There are a few kinds that I've seen. Some are more flattened and can't roll up. They're also known as woodlice, and can't survive in very dry climates. They require...

    Manoa Arboretum

Back home in WA state today after a long 10 days on Oahu. Finding the chameleons was one of the highlights for everyone. We told the kids whoever found one could pick a dessert that night LOL! Even with everyone looking, I was the only one who actually found any (and I found 3 total). The last...

    Manoa Arboretum

On a whim we went back to the arboretum today. I found another large female (who looked to be halfway through gestation) and this spunky guy!

    Manoa Arboretum

I could have spent all day here searching. As it was I spotted this sweet little female within a couple minutes and she accompanied us for about an hour while we looked for her cohorts. Alas, no luck. Still the family was excited to have her along.

Surely I can't be the only one...

Well, I grew up with a love of herptiles, but when I was young chameleons were all but impossible to purchase. So I already had the ball python, the red-tailed boa, the tortoises, etc. When chams finally became available I really didn't want to bother with the other animals much. These days my...

    WTH is this kitchen lizard?!?

Lots of small salamanders look similar to that. Around here in the PacNW we have a bunch of them. If you decide to keep him, you want a very moist planted area. Potting soil, moss, a rock. They like to hide under things and they need it damp all the time. Good little hunters, will eat most small...

my chameleon shot tongue at eye

I've heard of the eye thing for years but never experienced it. Eyes move kind of strange and for an animal that takes its predatory cues from movement and texture it may just look like something tasty. "Worth a shot" in his mind.

    Michi's Shower Time

He is such a goofy lizard. You may remember he's had some trouble with his right eye. With some suggestions, I decided I'd put him on a shower regimen. Maybe every 4 days or so for the past few weeks. I am definitely seeing some improvement- the eye is closed much less frequently now. Previously...

WTB- Unrelated juvenile or subadult quad pair

My family wants to buy me a chameleon for my birthday this month. It's supposed to be a surprise but my wife wants me to sort it out to make sure things don't go sideways with their plans. I'm thinking a pair of quads would be nice, as I haven't had them in many many years. I'm looking to spend...

    Babies v. Stick Insects

Those are hilarious! Serious suggestion though, the video would be 10x more enjoyable to watch if you held the phone sideways in landscape mode. We'd see the whole screen that way. Love to see more, those guys are great!

    Panther jumped?!

Yeah it's a "quick ditch" move. Here's a video of a Jackson's cham doing exactly that:

    C. crypticum getting a snack

I actually didn't have it that long. I do remember that it was a good eater and pretty robust. I was working with a pet store at that time, and eventually traded it in for a couple jacksons as I recall. This was like... 1992? I was 18 and quite new although it had been my life's goal to have...

    C. crypticum getting a snack

One of my very first chameleons in the early 90s came in as an "Elephant Ear" chameleon. I think it was in fact a C. Crypticum although at the time no one really knew. Anyway, I remember so distinctly being stunned at the length of the tail.
