I am moving out of the country and need to re-home my Nosy Be, Reggie. He is six. He had an infection in his eye which my vet could not fix quickly enough with antibiotics, and so he's blind in his left eye. He has trouble eating on his own because he doesn't see well, but if you help him, he...
Hi all,
So my chams decided they don't like to eat dubias anymore..Looking to sell my colony. I bought 400 about a year ago, and considering my chams barely eat them, I must have about double by now. Not looking to ship them, unless, of course, someone makes a great offer. Would prefer to...
Hi Kent,
No, we didn't book through Cortez--it's actually substantially cheaper if you do it directly with a company that works in Mada (we're paying about 5000 for both of us, excluding airfare, for a 2 week trip). There are local companies, Australian, German, and American companies that...
thanks, Trin. Should be a blast. Being animal lovers we thought it would be a good excuse to see that part of the world. Plus it's nice to contribute to their economy rather than "fill in some other touristy honeymoon spot". And it will literally be steamy in some parts!
Hi All,
Just thought I would pass along some jealousy-inducing news. My fiancee and I chose third-world Madagascar as our honeymoon destination, and just booked our trip. We will spend most of our time in the south, so will miss out on places like Ambilobe, Ambanja, Diego Suarez, etc., but we...
i was worried about that...i washed them and haven't had any problems..plus my chams drink off the leaves and not the bamboo..i also have the bamboo situated below most of the leaves so that they don't drip onto the leaves and end up in my guys' tummies.
dubias are easy, and all i have experience with. it's simple and there's plenty of instruction on the internet regarding care/breeding..silkworms are harder to breed, so i don't do that. crickets are smelly, labor-intensive, prone to death, and cheap at the pet store, so I don't breed them...
Here's a thread I started about it: https://www.chameleonforums.com/drainage-system-71134/. i ended up doing Jdogg's idea (first page) and it worked great..the other suggestions were good, too, so check those out.
i also do a lot of misting...lights on at 9, first mist is 15 mins at 10, second mist is 15mins at 1, 3rd mist is five minutes at 5. i agree that misting for longer periods stimulates drinking..i also had to build quite a drainage system, but it's really worth it.
ditto on more vines and no mulch..Also, a wood bottom might get nasty since it will get wet several times per day when the mistking goes on. Unless you've sealed it. some kind of plastic or screen bottom would be better
@ Olimpia: You say you feed your adults 1-2 insects per day? If I feed mine 5-8 bugs (assortment of crickets, dubias, silkies and supers) every other day does that mean I'm over-feeding??
Yes, more vines..If money is an issue, you can buy "Soaker hose" from Lowe's..It looks almost like the fake vines sold at pet stores, but is much cheaper (10 dollars for 25 feet).
Also, i have my mistking nozzles inside the cages..
