Can you remove the first few inches of Potting soil and replace it with small chips of bark so that the chameleon can not get to the poision?

I just recently picked up some Spanish Moss from Pike Family Nurseries. The Spanish moss is dark green and from Mexico. Does anyone know if this will cause problems with Panther Chameleons? Thanks!

Is it both the size and the ventilation? If its just ventilation, I can probably get a glass cutter and cut some large holes in the sides. If its the size.... well, I'm screwed and need a new enclosure.
