I would say to look at what the temps are in the appropriate locale of Madagascar. However, air temps and below ground temps will most definitely differ greatly.

base on my observation, the hatchlings did not seem capable of breaking out of the eggshell. It appeared that they may have drowned in the fluid inside the egg before they were able to crack the shell and hatch.
