    Custom 18x18x24 Build Thread

Ya, I am with you, I think toxic is wrong word, Pothos has similar things and everyone uses it. I think unpleasant if eaten would be a better way to say it. They are not going to die, they might not eat it again haha.

    Bioactive Build

I agree, the topic is quite controversial. I have seen people say that pathos, satin pathos, ivy and other commonly used plants are toxic and suggest people don't use them for chams. I've used all three, and others for that matter, and have not had any issues that I'm aware of. None of the chams...

Harry eats his pothos daily? Not in huge amounts is this cool?

It's fine, I'm just saying there is no black and white. Safe plant lists aren't and end all and we may find out plants are interfering with calcium absorption some day. I copy and pasted this for you: "Oxalic acid and oxalates both occur naturally in many plants, most of which can be eaten...

Do I have the right plants for enclosure

...are plant eaters. Pothos is generally used in enclosures due to it's versatility, but it is often listed as toxic. Yes it contains oxalate crystals, but is far from toxic. Mildly irritant would be a better description in my opinion. I would be most concerned with plants that will have sap...

Do I have the right plants for enclosure

Thanks a lot, I’ve been waiting it out just to make sure I get the right stuff. And do it the right way.

I was just trying to end that conversation with a bit of humor. Again, I know i’m out topic and I was wrong to suggest pothos. I am sorry. I understand. English is not my first language. I do what I can. I am not being helpful I get it. I will indeed be very careful with the « facts » in the...

Safety of Umbrella Plant (Schefflera arboricola)

So does pothos and many other plants. Toxic=/= poisonous. Oxalate crystals are more of an irritant, can cause gastric issues, and in humans kidney stones. People use plants like these with veileds that eat them and notice no bad effects. It would make sense since most of the plants they'd be on...

    Another plants thread

You'll find that oxalate crystals are in many plants. Pothos is another favorite that has these. It's a common defense mechanism for plants, even the veggies we eat can cause kidney stones for certain people. Chameleons are surrounded by highly toxic plants In the wild, we probably shouldn't try...

Schefflera plant and gold dust croton

...with my Panthers though which don't really eat leaves, though occasionally they chew. Is there any evidence of them being toxic to chameleons? It looks like they are toxic for the same reason as pothos(oxalate crystals), yet veileds seem to be able to strip pothos plants clean without problems.

Safety of Umbrella Plant (Schefflera arboricola)

I realize this thread is a couple years old and the OP hasn't been active in a while, but I find myself looking into this issue, and this was the first thread that came up in an archive search. There are several other plants known as "Umbrella plant". According to: I haven't researched all...

So I'm going to use this as a build/ question thead.

It should do fine. Just as an FYI, many lists state the philodendrons are toxic, but they just have oxalate crystals that cause nausea and mouth irritation, same as pothos and many other plants. If the chamelons were eating large amounts of it, I may be concerned, but @jpowell86 and myself, and...

  18. Extensionofgreen

I'm not sure if I'm in the right section I am going crazy trying to figure out what plant this is.p

@jpowell86 is correct. There are numerous cultivars, hybrids, and species, so it may not be easy to find an exact match in online photos. Your plant is also pale and suffering from some typical cultural problems, so it isn't showing its truest colors. It is not recommended is chameleon...

    What type of live plants

When I am told to find someone that has more botanical experience than myself I find that to be insulting.
