    Mealworms colony

I just got a soil without perlite because it was… cheaper… 😆 As for fertilizers. I’ve used organic fertilizers with my chameleons plants, actually caught one of them eating the soil with the fertilizer and He was completely fine. As long as it’s organic and states it in BOLD you should be fine...

    New Chameleon Momma🥳

...and rinse some more. I do this all outside with the hose to take advantage of the water pressure. Then I repot in organic soil (nothing with perlite). Some will cover the soil with river rocks which are too big to accidentally be eaten. Even if all you use is pothos, that’s fine. Remove all...

    Veiled Chameleon Dying

...veileds, you want veiled-tested live plants only, that need to be properly washed, repotted in organic soil without chemical fertilizers or perlite, and add rocks too big for him to eat over the soil in the pots. Here's a list to choose from (veiled-tested ones only)...

    Time to upgrade

One step ahead of you! I used the excess clay balls from my drainage layer in the pots of all the plants to ensure proper drainage, as very few plants like wet feet. I will be grabbing a pic of the newest pitcher today.

    Soil & Gnats

...was disappointed to find it had bits of pumice or something like that in it. I believe most potting soils, organic or not, have some sort of perlite or similar additive. I’ve had those white crusties on my plants before (long before having chameleons) but honestly I don’t know exactly what...

Cham “eating” at lay bin mixture

...I do not know anyone here that has females that would advise using all soil mixtures in a lay bin. Make sure the potting soil does not have perlite in it. This can cause impaction issues if she ingests it. First off you want to make sure your supplementing her correctly. If your not then...

Someone give me their green thumb 🙄

...(not the kind for your grill) - medium and/or coarse orchid bark (orchiata is great or pine bark (pinus radiata - NOT the bark for mulch) - perlite (but if used for a chameleon cage, I'd skip perlite and double up the bark/charcoal instead) Mix those together to get a very chunky soil mix...

    Plant pot size preferences?

I would be careful with the perlite unless it's down in the pot as its an impaction risk

    Bioactive Substrate

...have said, "Pots can be covered with river pebbles." The pots in my cham enclosure are covered, however... It's going to come up with folks planning/building bioactive enclosures I'm building another (different non-bioactive) enclosure, and we're having trouble finding perlite-free soil

    New cage

...two great charts and a link, just be sure to pick veiled-tested ones! Also make sure to properly clean off the plants, repot them in organic soil that doesn't have chemical fertilizers or perlite, and add rocks too big for him to eat over the soil in the pots. https://chameleonacademy.com/plants/

    Carly's Enclosure Upgrade

I just use whatever organic potting soil I can find at Lowe’s or Home Depot. All have dreaded perlite in them, which is just another reason to cover with rocks.

Can I still remove the eggs?

...visible and they are orange!! We have to get supplies. This was an unexpected lay. I know we could be in danger the longer we wait. We intend to remove today. Just have to find vermiculite or perlite. Everywhere we have gone is weirdly out of it. Thanks for the info, Will watch this for guidance.

...alata, although pitchers normally speckled, and n ventricosa, with pitchers staying mostly red. The good news is all three are easy to grow and should do well in cham conditions! You just might want to put some gravel or perlite in the bottom of the pots to make sure they are able to drain...

    Hello

...go in with the feeders. Some people put small rocks on the plant soil which i am against. Just make sure your top soil is organic dont use perlite either. If you need soil drainage use vermiculite below the top soil. Also feeding bowls will go flying so i found gluing them to flat heavy rocks...

    Pothos potting

I try to avoid perlite just in case my chams decide to eat dirt. I think just adding some rocks to the bottom with drainage holes will help with your problem.

    Non-buried treasure

No, that's a plant pot, not meant for her to lay in. The laybins don't have perlite, and are moist. Here's some pictures, including one to show the soil's structural integrity. It hold a tunnel easily

    Plants are dying ...

...to avoid waterlogging, but soil washes out easier because of the hole size. Pack of 100 for $7 on amazon @Lexlynn another thing to try is adding perlite to your soil mix to help with drainage. You will have to add large pebbles as a top layer to avoid your chameleon from ingesting any perlite.
